The B-52’s -> The B-52s

I’m not kidding. The dropping of the apostrophe was apparently a considered decision.

Goodness knows. Certain expressions, mainly those containing numbers, seem to causes people problems when they try form the plural. For example the decade beginning with the year 1980 gets called “the 1980’s”, The apostrophe is clearly wrong - it does not refer to something belonging to 1980, nor does it indicate something omitted - but I guess people just feel uncomfortable with running letters and numbers together as in “1980s”,

Smog > English Grey > Star Wars > Bill Callahan > Osama Bon Iver

Keith Richards - Keith Richard - Keith Richards

Its about their haircuts

Coby Dick -> Jacoby Shaddix

Kozelek/Sun Kil Moon etc

William Patrick Corgan Jr. -> Billy Corgan -> William Patrick Corgan

I like to think his dad has achieved an 80s movie style body swap with him and that explains Corgan’s mistakes of recent years

I recently read that Canadian artist Jane Siberry now goes by some other assumed name, supposed to signify some kind of spiritual transformation.

Band Names:
The Reign of Kindo -> Kindo
Cavil at Rest -> Local Natives
Kunek -> Other Lives
The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra -> Walking Sleep
The Apex Theory -> Mt.Helium

I always thought this was more of a stylistic change? That 19XX’s was popular and gradually it became 1980s but that really neither was wrong.

If we’re going with weird grammar:

Godspeed You Black Emperor!

became

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

after a couple of albums
