My boots smell

Got a pair of steel toecaps for my job. They’ve been on the go for 18 months now and are the comfiest footwear I own. I even wear them when hillwalking. But they fucking reek. I’m having to decide whether to keep them in the house or in the car on a daily basis. Anyone got any tried and trusted tips for desmellifying footwear?
