I dunno, never thought about it that way. I just mean that there’s only one ‘z’ so you can spell shoegaze without needing a blank which means you score every tile.

Always thought the term came from the complete lack of charisma or stage presence of any of the bands. They’d mumble an occasional thanks from behind their fringes but no chat beyond that.

The effects pedal thing also sounds plausible.
