Hey @myvitriol ,
Regardless of the fact that youâve neglected to formulate a plan of any kind to make this record a reality, and regardless of your dreadful treatment of your fans - i donât believe for one minute that only 1% of them have asked for a refund, your communication with (and censorship of) them has been shocking - one important question remains. Do you realise the damage that you have done to the reputation of Pledge Music? Pledge is an almost utopian interface designed to raise funds for art projects, and is based ENTIRELY on the good will, faith and belief of the artistâs audience. You are fucking up this model not only for your fans, but for your fellow bands. Many customers will no longer trust the Pledge model due to your utter ineptitude.
I remember seeing posters advertising your new album at Reading 2013, an expensive advertising opportunity not to be missed, what with Biffy Clyro headlining that year. So much time has passed that Biffy have managed to headline AGAIN and you havenât even managed to put out your sorry âbonusâ disk of knock offs to tide your fans over.
You make mention of âalbum cyclesâ like you only started thinking about this a couple of years ago. You last released a record in, what, 2002? Have you any idea how many records you couldâve made since then? Youâre making it sound like you launched the Pledge campaign before you even wrote any songs. Maybe you did?
Itâs quite simple - Artist makes art. Band makes music. Band performs music. Given that you have not the capacity to do any of these things, was it really wise to start asking your fans to whip up tens (hundreds?) of thousands of pounds when you clearly donât know what youâre doing? As an artist manager who has run a couple of Pledge campaigns, i certainly wouldnât have dreamt of pressing go on anything until i KNEW i could pull it off.
Please stop wasting everyoneâs time.
