Thread closed. Thanks all.
Wonder if this could be a rolling thread, as I regularly need help with words.
Today, for example, I’m absolutely stumped about how to refer to someone’s part-time employment. A Finnish MP was appointed to direct an institute on “2/3-service”, meaning he would do the job two-thirds of the time, while the other third of the time he would continue to work as an MP. There has to be a better way to say this in English than “employed for two-thirds of the time as…”
Any suggestions very welcome!
⅔ pro rata basis
Something along the lines of a split incumbency?
Thanks for the ideas!
“Pro rata” seems to refer mainly to proportional salaries, which might be indirectly relevant. As for “split incumbency”, I’d not heard the term before, but it fits neatly with the MP’s circumstances. Just wonder if it’s too niche to drop without explanation into the middle of a paragraph.
I normally just say something like 0.66 FTE or 2/3 full time equivalent
