Our game is quickly descending into chaos

Would be interested to play this with strangers, I think I get too stressed getting into beeves with people I like

I’ve never played a game with complete strangers before, can only imagine the extra layer of suspicion and subterfuge!

100%. The basics are good but you literally can’t win without playing the diplomatic game and screwing a few people over on the way!

Oh is that so, aye?

I am now in mutually incompatible alliances with 3 of my 4 remaining opponents. Opponent 4 is a non-entity…

@Twinkletoes is now the only person who hasn’t betrayed me in this game. RIP

I have betrayed everyone in my current game. Down to 3 of us now.

Right, think I’ve run out of ways to be even remotely annoying in this game now, GG

@SpessMareen really running away with the game here now. Think the end is in sight now lads

You won @SpessMareen. Enjoy the money, I hope it makes you very happy

Dear Lord, what a sad little life, @SpessMareen

GG @SpessMareen!

I never really caught up after my hugely protracted rout of @Twinkletoes - whoever was feeding him Weapons tech, well played.

Glad to have achieved my aim of at least messing up your plan!

Think I received tech from everyone else :grinning:

On a victory lap in my other game. Got yellow and blue to over-commit against purple, bringing down both blue and purple. Quietly amassed a force to pounce on yellow’s understaffed key stars. All three of them bowed out over a few days. Now just orange pissing around on the other side of the map while I mop up enough AI-controlled stars to take home the victory.

I feel free! That got super intense at points, too intense.

…Why do I want to start a new game?

I’ve got got literally no idea what any of this thread is about but I’ve kept up to date with it and strangely enjoyed it

I wanted to do a running commentary sorta like what @colossalhorse did for his Stellaris playthrough (I think it was him?) but realised I couldn’t do that without giving away what I was up to. A spectator mode would be cool although open to abuse I guess.

My highlight was probably @anon67149139 going all out right off the bat, attacking every single person at every opportunity while the rest of us were still being super cautious. He didn’t last long, but what a way to go.

Also enjoyed @Twinkletoes keeping up the good fight against @cutthelights for a very long time, and @pabswikk going out in a blaze of glory with his Party Ship cruising through the galaxy messing mine and @SpessMareen’s shit up.

Just realised this took up the past month of our lives, to the day. Bloody hell

I did a bit but @Parsefone did more than I did. I did the XCOM 2 War Diaries.

Also I’ve no idea how I missed this thread until now. What the fuck.

I’m sure we’ll do another! Not sure what the appetite is for another game, although @Twinkletoes jumped straight back into another so maybe sooner rather than later.

Thought @SpessMareen’s victory essay summed things up nicely. Riddled with typos though, the git.

Dear Space Beebes,

I started with a simple vision, build a corner of the galaxy that I could all home. Those lasse-faire days of Sheliak and Gut seem many light years away now.

First Barf Vader, a wild, reckless, young thing. Whilst troops were light, regions forming, he came at me like a wrecking ball. Unfortunately, he came at all of us like wrecking balls and his territory was gleefully consumed by the hungry young empires.

My Galaxy grew and borders were formed.

King Space the Furst on one side, Beev Palpatine on the other.

King Space the Furst - The Pretender to the Throne
We were side by side for aeons. Held in an uneasy truce due to the fear of mutual destruction that would be inevitable if war broke out. Occasional mutually beneficial trades and dialogue occured but we both were sure that war was coming.

From across the galaxy, Aphex Twinkletoes - The Great Underdog, reached out. I had plenty and I was happy to share. I saw his blossoming young empire being swallowed by those that surrounded and vowed to help but there was an orange wall between myself and him.

BeevPalpatine - The Bravest Warrior
I sort to help Aphex but little did I know what I was coming up against. Not only was there a chasm between our Empires but also, an unrelenting wall of the hardiest of men. Through sheer weight of numbers, I chipped away at his defence but it was painfully slow. Aphex was a lost cause but I’d started now…so why stop?

Then The Pretender to the Throne cashed in his chips. In one night he relented all of his stars, seemingly a gift for the yellow unknown. Accompanying this was a tauntingly named “Party Fleet” of nearly 10000 ships that came like an armada into my otherwise cosy homestead.

My reactions were lethargic. The yellow mass consumed quickly. I bungeed back behind the Party Fleet taking what I could, but watched as the Turbomate’s Industry and Science almost doubled in a day.

Turbomate - The Man Who Would be King
Our paths hadn’t crossed. I could see his empire building but previously there was always a comforting buffer of other empires. I heard whispers of his struggles. The demands of his empire were huge and yet not even in the top 5 of his major concerns. Did he deserve to have the galaxy? Moreso than any of us. Does that matter? Apparently not.

Despite being Officer in Chief of the devastation being wrought, I was desensitised to it. As long as my numbers were the highest numbers, that was all that mattered. The idea of my cosy corner of space was dead. Instead, it was replaced with this desperate desire for the madness to stop.

The last two nights have meant the devastation of my empire. Any star that is out of hyperspace range of a hostile planet is all but barren. Men, women and children have been loaded into carriers and plunged into new, unwelcoming worlds.

I look on my empire with no glee. My economic welfare and scietific advancement were rendered irrelevent in the shadow of our all consuming ship factories. Our banking, farming and our ability to see other worlds…all left doormant as every available resource was poured into the latest Weapons technology.

Have I brought these people victory? Not my any measure I can see.

I only hope we can all find peace.

Yours exhaustedly,
SpessMareen

Good read, this.

I need a mental break once I’ve finished my current game. I love this, but definitely got a bit stressed at the point where I was holding together competing alliances! Have done some masterful manipulation though.

Will be up for beevs mark 2 in due course
