Yeah, I get what you mean, it was jarring at first but I’m getting used to it. I’m just glad a band like this exists without a) raspy screaming and b) that polished depressive gloss thing that a lot of modern heavy music seems to have.

NY artpop, strains of 00s Björk and Radiohead and triphop, feels like some jazz influence there too (bio says she’s done stuff with both Ninja Tune and Brainfeeder so that tracks).
Damn, there’s a name I’ve not heard in a while. Glad she’s still going, gonna have to give that a listen

Sparklmami - in this body
Sparklmami is a Texas-raised, Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist of Mexican and Indian heritage and this is their debut record. Taking bits of Brazilian influenced jazz, funk, soul and bolero, this 9 track record flies by in a snappy 23 minutes. Well worth an explore. Love it.
I missed you posting this in the thread last week and only noticed it in the poll, but this is predictably fantastic. Man, such a consistently excellent artist.
Finally got round to giving this the full listen it deserved whilst walking in the hazy sun and the surrey countryside.
Wow…their last record was one of my albums of 2022 and super under-rated. This could be even better….the influence of Sandoval in Molly Hamilton’s vocals and Roebuck in Thomas’ guitarwork is striking but not overbearing, I am listening to Mojave 3 as I type and its not a million miles from that either….there seems to be a slightly more country-tinged element to this record and whilst the production is crystalline and rich, what grabbed me the most is the classic nature of the songs themselves….like dialling into some a.m. radio station on a US road trip playing unearthed americana/country-rock gems from the 70s or 80s….yet one can still file under “dream-pop”
Couldn’t see them mentioned in this thread, although they appear scattered across the board. Anyway, just listened to Zoh Amba off the back of the latest @GoldFlakePaint mix. Instantly one of my favourite recent albums. Give it a try if you think Adrianne Lenker’s voice would benefit from being warblier and strained (in a very, very good way):
