🦞 🐈 🌎 New Albums 15th September 2023 🦞 📞 🎶

I’m wide awake and it’s a new day, just.

What bounce u listen to huns?

Blood Incantation - Luminescent Bridge
Two new songs over 20 minutes. One is cosmic death metal the other is dark Tangerine Dream style synthy ambience. An excellent band.

Baroness - Stone
Riffy, classic rock tinged heavy metal. I haven’t really enjoyed anything they’ve put out since Blue but apparently this is a return to form.

Nation Of Language - Strange Disciple
Indie tinged synth pop. One part goth club one part uhh I guess 80s alt night one part early 00s ironic New York dance party

Tomb Mold - The Enduring Spirit
Upliftingly named new album from uhh…another cosmic death metal band

This is my big one for this week. Currently listening to the Colours albums in sequence in readiness. Wondering if Stone heralds a new album naming convention?

Autre Monde - Sensitive Assigments

Bit of a ‘supergroup’ of the Dublin DIY indie scene, featuring Paddy Hanna on vocals along with members of Ginnels, No Monster Club, Land Lovers etc. Bit synthier than most of those bands, quite Talking Heads. Second album, released on the newly revived Popical Island label that all their old bands used to be on in its heyday.

Produced by Daniel Fox from Gilla Band as all albums are now. Looks like it was mastered by Mikey Young from Eddy Current Suppression Ring? That’s cool.

Yeah, mainly Nation Of Language for me. Their last two were brilliant albums.

I lasted 3 tracks

Pharoah Sanders - Pharoah

Reissue of 1976 spiritual jazz classic.

Mitski - The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We

Seventh album of off-beat pop, getting great reviews.

Polypores - Multizonal Mindscramble

Second full album on DiN: euphoric synth-lines and slowly developing melodies form a beautiful, rich tapestry of sound.

Ash - Race the Night

Do you remember the time I knew a girl from Mars? Had no idea these were still going…

Vagabon - Sorry I Haven’t Called

The third album from the Cameroonian- American artist. A reinvention of her sound after a self imposed move to Germany and being surrounded by dance music. Produced by rostram, this album blends beat driven dance and effervescent pop.

Not much for me today. I’ll be taking a look at the return of Brujeria

The grindcore/death metal band formed by a Mexican drug cartel which may or may not just be members of various metal bands like Fear Factory, Faith No More, Napalm Death etc in disguise

FFO MTV2 videos shown around 2am circa 1999, silly disguises, people going “aiaiaiaiaiiiiiii hahaha”

A couple:

Explosions In The Sky - End

Latest album from the legendary Texan post-rock band.

Beach Vacation - Coping Habits

Another album of woozy dream pop/shoegaze/bummer summer tunes which sounds a lot like other bands with beach in their name but I’m still a sucker for.

Looks like the Spotify link issue is happening to a few other folk now too. If you’re sharing it on your phone, you might need to click Share->More->Copy URL to get the proper link.

Carlos Niño & Friends - (I’m just) Chillin’, on Fire

New album of ambient, spiritual jazz out on International Anthem. A label that is having an incredible couple of months.

Tesseract - War of Being

Anyone remotely interested in heavy music should give this a go. Djent-y metal-y experimental British band with first album since 2018. Bound to be one of my AOTYs, the vocals are so so good. Definitely worth a listen.

Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia Go Deo

Deluxe version of last year’s album - features a cover of Whipping Boy’s ‘Twinkle’, an Orbital remix of the opening track, and versions from the original sessions.

Could do with the nation of language album having a couple bangers on it.

Ruby Haunt - Between Heavens

Prolific hazy melancholic slowcore band release this year’s offering,. The slowjams seem very slightly more jumped up with each album. (This was actually out a couple of days ago, but seemed a waste to put it in last week’s thread)
