That was pretty special wasn’t it? One highlight was when Adrianne began the encore by introducing a “new song”, which I assumed was a joke about their ridiculous productivity before they went on to play a classic. Nope, it was a genuinely brand new song.

Jealous of you all going last night, though excited to hear how it was!

Great show although I thought it could’ve done with a big hitter like a Masterpiece or a Shark Smile to really send people home happy. Minor gripe though. New album in full was a nice (semi expected) surprise. I’m a terrible judge of songs after one listen, especially in a live setting, but they all sounded pretty strong to me?

Loved the new (as in newer than the new album new) song they played in the encore.

Nice of them to give away the rest of their 2019 European tour posters too, I thought.

Also woke up today to find that Adrianne’s dad had liked a bunch of my IG posts from the gig

Yep, new album sounded great - a slightly gnarlier beast compared to UFOF, lot more electric guitar and atmospherics. I thought the second half of the record in particular was especially strong, both the songs either side of Not sound like they bookend that particular track really well. I’ve never seen them play Not before and it was just incredible.

yaaay

I recognised The track before Not, think they may have played it at Roundhouse too? Anyway yeah, New album sounded fantastic, the heavier spiritual cousin of U.F.O.F. actually reminded me of the first album in parts.

Also I thought the whole room was gonna take off during ‘Not’

Yep, that was fantastic. Loved the extra new song in the encore. Loved Mary and From. The new album sounded great too and so glad it is a bit “heavier” - only one song with acoustic guitar I think? You could tell the songs they were playing live for the first time (Adrienne asking for less snare and to go faster during one of them was funny) but it didn’t diminish it.

Not was up there with one of the best things I’ve seen live. Genuine goosebumps. Feedback after the solo at the end almost deafened me though - was a bit too close to the speakers.

That was exceptional, Not and the track afterwards were jaw dropping.

I also realised/remembered that Not reminds me of this absolutely underrated gem of a banger. If people don’t know them I’d recommend checking out this record, there’s quite a similar vibe to Big Thief but was a decade ago:

Here we go, I may have gushed pretty hard

They were one of many highlights of Green Man fest 2019. What. A. Weekend.

thanks! It’s a little easier when you are writing about a band who you are deeply enamoured with and inspired by

right?! I only do that when it’s worth it

Agree that new album sounded really promising, much more guitar heavy and had a really strong second half. Interesting that they suggested after that the plan was always to do two albums with the songs they had, which also suggests that this will be the rocky twin of UFOF

Not was absolutely stunning!

I’ve been banging on about them to my friends on FB to the sound of cricket infested tumbleweed for months now.

Shared this review last night and pulled out the “one of the truly most talented acts of our current times on the cusp of an explosion” line for emphasis and now suddenly every fucker wants a piece of my Big Thief playlist. Good job!

Thanks for sharing that, it means a lot to know I’m not just shouting into a vacuum all the time

Didn’t rate matey’s solo material for the support
