How have Ithaca been going down?

There are some interesting user comments at the foot of the Guardian review of last night!

What a bloody band.

There were some sound issues (think it was cause of where we were stood) and the crowd was weirdly laddy and very talky. But yeah, great. She’s an absolute star and a rare talent

That was so good. Couple of bellends aside, great atmosphere too. Cba to see what the guardian comment section melts have to say about Ithaca but I thought they were amazing too. Less into heavy music the older I’ve got but thought it was brilliant.

That was a very good gig with a very weird audience

Feels weirdly empty in Albert Hall might just be earlier than usual

Got a spare for Glasgow on Monday if anyone wants it

@blind_pilot ?

I also have a spare for tomorrow if a second person is looking!

What a fucking band.

She’s incredible. Keep saying it, but genuinely think we’re seeing a generational artist here. Don’t think i’ve ever seen live performer with such stagecraft. She’s the absolute boss. It’s like watching Kurt Cobain or Chuck Berry. The set was incredible, blasted out a few bangers, played a few acoustic new ones, a weird sort of Lake of Fire-y version of Cattails, then brought the house down with some fucking insane outros, and a chilled-out encore.

Albert Hall’s a great venue soundwise. Shouldn’t be because it’s so vacuous and ancient, but the acoustics are excellent. They definitely oversold that, though, couldn’t move, was actually uncomfortable downstairs. Couple of people near me fainted.

Agree with it feeling oversold but, if it is sold out it always feel overcrowded . Saw quite a few people walking out looking quite stressted. I was at the back near “Craft Corner” wasn’t too bad.

I would like every gig I ever go to, to have a line-up which is as contrasting as that gig.

Ithaca were great fun live, and seemed genuinely chuffed to pieces to a) be there, and b) to get such a positive reception from a bunch of indie-folk fans. Lovely stuff.

Oh, and Big Thief were special, but you already knew that, didn’t you…

Felt a bit underwhelming tonight. Might be a venue thing but didn’t really click for me. Anyone else think that if buck meek wandered off for a pint half way though it wouldn’t make much difference?

By the way… really enjoyed Ithaca!

i thought they finally clicked for me to tonight! Fourth time of asking live.
Not, Masterpiece, Contact &Mary were just incredible. we’re so so lucky.

Buck’s quite a subtle guitarist, he offers some textures and shit that don’t seem that obvious but you’d totally miss if they weren’t there. It doesn’t help that he plays so nonchalantly though, I’ll give you that

The guy’s gonna need a double hip replacement before he’s 40.

Glad to hear they’ve been so good on the tour so far, which practically guarantees that they’ll have a stinker in Glasgow tonight, so thanks for that everyone

Looking forward to seeing how Ithaca go down.

Fuck SAKE, can’t find my tickets now. And looks like since I bought them at a local shop over the counter, even with card and a record of payment, they might not be able to do anything for me …

I really prefer getting things in person and using physical tickets, just feels a lot more enjoyable to me, but the fact that you’re much more protected if you buy online or over the phone even … fuck, so annoying
