I’m sorry I misunderstood. My error.

No offence meant. Being called a cunt on here is one thing but a racist is quite another hence my confusion.

Struggle to come to terms with moker’s stupidity. Wonder how many years it’ll be before people like him admit to themselves how desperately wrong they’ve been. I’m guessing about seven.

It seems that Theresa May’s strategy for if we don’t get a cordial deal from EU27 is to launch some form corporate warfare. What this will mean in practice is the slashing of business rates and the top rate of tax etc. etc. so that the UK will pretty much be some sort of tax haven.

I’m not sure what sort of socialist would be happy with this happening on their watch but if leaving the EU is the prize to end all prizes regardless of outcome then… I assume you’ll be reasonably content.

The leftist view is one based entirely on a point 10-20 years from now when there is a leftist govt in charge who can then, apparently, enact a better form of change in our society that the EU would prevent?

I get the impression a lot of this sort of view comes from a very ‘martial’ view of leftism, the notion that until we get that point there will probably be a lot of suffering and there could even be people who die but that these should be considered sort of ‘casualties of war’ and their sacrifice will have been necessary in the end? Dunno, this is really the only way I can rationalise anyone with strongly leftist views wanting to give a victory to the fascist right like this.

The Long Revolution’s dragging on ain’t it.

But we gave UKIP their territory when the mainstream parties abandoned engagement with anyone other than swing voters. The failure of modern liberal politics has been to take large swathes of the population for granted and disregard others all together. Labour didn’t just not defend the benefits of immigration, they also neglected working class and northern representation in politics, failed to emphasize social cohesion in the wake of Thatchers whole-sale assault on industrial communities, and fundamentally stopped talking about inequality in favour of poverty.

All of these things contributed to UKIP reaching outside of its traditional reactionary Tory base. It may be that direct confrontation wasn’t always necessary but the refusal to engage just seems another expression of the detachment and elitism of Westminster. Yes talking solely about racism suits UKIP, but never talking to them or there voters suits them even better.

Saw someone saying just this afternoon that the referendum result was more about sticking 2 fingers up at London than Brussels.

Can’t really counter it.

And ever more despised by the rest of the UK

That was a big problem with the referendum - either way, you were voting Tory. Corbs should have used the campaign to wallop the Tories for their failures in government, sod sharing a platform with Cameron. Did him no favours at all.

Income inequality in the UK is much worse than in Switzerland. In Switzerland consumer goods are super expensive because they choose to pay workers more money. A checkout attendant at the supermarket gets paid around £3500 a month and they don’t work evenings or Sundays. We make everything crazy cheap (relatively) so that the workers pay and someone in the same position in the UK has to work three jobs to survive. Basically, we’re worse than them.

The PLP’s big problem with Corbyn was that he DIDN’T share a platform with Cameron.

We’re living the American dream. Individualist, consumerist and with fuck all class mobility.
