I had a friend bring this up ages ago, and I just don’t get it.

It is new (factual).
It is improved over the old one (opinion).

Thus, “new and improved”.

Just a slightly different version of the same thing = not new.

Yeah the new is superfluous, if it’s improved it’s new regardless

It’s short for “this is the new version and it’s an improvement over the old”.

Totally fine.

The top rated answer here says there are a lot of different ways in which ‘new’ is used and thus it is is not oxymoronic

Funko’s new and improved posting style is going down poorly, here.

Definitely fine. If an existing group has two objectively detrimental members replaced, they will have both a new and improved line up.

In the year of 2023 I am going to 100 percent back up ALL of Funkys opinions

Totally agree with this Funkster.

I know and I could not care less.

I do not have a problem with this generally. Unless the improvement isn’t there, which is so often the case.

New and improved normally just means less sugar which is obviously shit

everything that’s improved is new but not everything new is improved

how would you feel about ‘Newly improved’?

Confused.

Now if you want beeves about a weird use of words, that would be a thread I could get behind

(Not saying you did say this)
