Into December, things slowing down for the festive period?
Certainly not in the world of Hip-Hopā¦
Bad Tofu - Affordable Luxuries
Portland rapper Milc links with Chuck Strangers to finally put out an album in 2024.
Apollo Brown & CRIMEAPPLE - This, Is Not That
CRIMEAPPLEās 6th Album of 2024 seeās him link with Mello Music Group stalwart producer Apollo Brown.
Andrew - Swan Dive
Entirely produced by Jesse The Tree, a companion piece of sorts to Jesse The Treeās āNot Fade Awayā from earlier this year which was entirely produced by Andrew, & which alongside their second album as sleepingdogs is high up in my favourite albums of the year.
Kenny Segal & K-The-I??? - Genuine Dexterity
Coming out on Backwoodz, Kenny Segal provides the production for rapper K-The-I??? who Iāve not heard before but with Segal production & features including Armand Hammer, Open Mike Eagle & Jesse The Tree Iām definitely going to give a listen.
From the JagJagWar website: Cosmic Waves Volume 1 is a compilation of artists curated by Angel Olsen; each artist has a song of their own on Side A, and a cover song of theirs by Olsen on side B.
Owen Ashworth (formerly Casiotone for the Painfully Alone) in his Advance Base solo incarnation with this minimal synthpop singer-songwriter concept album about the fictional town of Richmond, the people who live there, and the, well, horrible occurrences there.
Various Artists - Future Sounds of Kraut Vol 3 (compiled by Fred und Luna)
Krautrock/kosmische/motorik electronica. Very sad to hear about the death of Rainer Buchmüller aka Fred und Luna earlier this year. As the curator behind this excellent series of modern kraut-electronic compilations, he selected the tracks for this edition shortly before he passed away.
Meredith Young-Sowers - Agartha: Personal Meditation Music
āA low-key holy grail of new age ambient minimalism, āAgartha: Personal Meditation Musicā was released on 7 tapes in 1986 as a longform aid for meditation and alignment, based on the teachings of spiritual teacher and author Meridith Young-Sowers. The seven-part epic picks out apocryphal shapes from the blurriest edges of the subconscious - itās a long-form, meditative head-melter thatās mandatory listening if youāre into JD Emmanuel, Eliane Radigue, Radiophonic Workshopās Paddy Kingsland, Iasos, Enoā.
Iāve listened to the first CDās worth of this and am into it, with the caveat that Iām having one of those times when experimental stuff is particularly tickling my fancy.
A new project/alter ego of outsider house merchant, Ross From Friends, billed as being more playful and energetic. Iāve only heard a few tracks and they didnāt sound like a huge departure from his day job but weāll see, I guess.
Speaking of producers with a penchant for 90s TV characters, hereās a second album of the year from another. Presumably more sample laden vibes for any situation.
Daniel Burkner - Who Are You, Planet
Lowkey indie-folk/ambient. Very Notwist-esque, at least their quieter songs. Really quite liked his album from a few years ago. Keeping it real with his 3 monthly listeners.
Colapse & Dimartion - Archi, Ottoni e Preoccupazioni
I assume this is a live album with orchestra, but sounds like a very sumptuously recorded album. Reminds me of Andrea Laszlo De Simone - beautiful Italian and sweeping songs.
Hollie Kenniff - For Forever
Nice instrumental soundscapes/ambient dreaminess.
Patās Soundhouse - Khaen Solo, Vol. 3
Not sure if Iāve posted any previous releases of his before, but itās December, so why not. His 6th album of the year, his 9th since last year. I donāt know anything about the Khaen pipe organ instrument, but it sounds beautiful here.
Kush K - Drum Therapy
Dreamy hushed alt-indie.
Cameron Winter - Heavy Metal
Croony baroque pop, deep voice, a la Adam Green maybe.
Anais Mitchell & Hadestown Original West End Cast - Hadestown: Live From London
I didnāt get around to seeing the theatre show, but hereās the cast recording of it.
cheating slightly, as it was technically released (I say āreleasedā but that flatters it slightly) on Wednesday, but the annual live satan recording is up, for pay what you want! just in time for Bandcamp Friday too!
