:+1:

I imagine seeing me and @Twinkletoes post about releases now just feels a bit like “yeah, yeah, another Dis State album” but this is honest to god next-level shit IMO and people would be proper going on about it if it were on Hyperdub or Warp or whatever.

We need a bigger marketing budget.

Two listens in and I’m really enjoying the new one from The Men after being disappointed by the last two. Different from what they’re known for and very 70s sounding.

This one kind of reminds me of At Mount Zoomer era Wolf Parade:

Great acoustic album closer:

A couple of decent black metal albums were released yesterday.

Turia from the Netherlands. “The band aims to evoke gripping black metal, stripped to its bare necessities. Utilizing a minimal setup of drums and guitar they bring to life a mirage of sound while anguished screams drag the listener into a vastness of desolation.”

and Izthmi, atmospheric BM from Seattle

Enjoying Bambara. It’s basically an amalgamation of every single other band I like so all good. Looking forward to Bodega in May.

Their album title translates as “Sword Of Light”, more commonly known as a lightsaber.

I’m going to try and listen to other albums today after spending all yesterday listening to Beach Bunny!

Just give me a second whilst I listen to more Beach Bunny

The reissue of the criminally underrated Associates album Perhaps Is my highlight of the week. It’s not been available to stream (still isn’t I don’t think) and never been properly released on CD before. Cherry Red have done it proud (sounds a lot better than the old tape of it I used to have).

Cherry Red are so good for remasters and reissues. As a fan of The Residents they’ve done me good. GBOL them Cherry Red

Apart from one quite bad remix I really like the new TNPs outtakes album.

Pretty much every song on the Tame Impala album are 1 - 2mins too long

I’ve got the version they put out as a double-pack with “The Glamour Chase” ages ago, but the extras on this new version make it very tempting…

The new Tennis record is the first one I’ve enjoyed the whole way through, deffo the best in their catalog.

Between Tennis and Beach Bunny a release week I had no hope in has come out rather well

Sounds brilliant (like the recent reissues and unlike the earlier Associates releases on CD).

The extras are interesting rather than essential. There was a famous Associates show at Ronnie Scott’s around the time of the album release (with Billy MacKenzie in full jazz lounge mode) which was recorded and various tracks appeared in B-Sides, A full release of that would have been an ace second disc.

Beach Bunny boring for me sadly. Habibi much better. Love it.

Habibi a really nice surprise for me. Great stuff.

Never heard The Associates. Is Perhaps a good place to start?

Enjoying the Bambara record
This track in particular is just full of energy.

They’re one of my favourite ever bands. It’s hard to know where to suggest start because they are wildly varied and experimental. You could go with their dramatic, cold wave electro pop phase (one of my favourite songs of all time):

Or them in full 80s pop mode (the big hit):

Or in ultra torch lounge mode (this is from Perhaps):

Sulk is generally considered their best album (it has the hits on). I can’t really choose between that and the earlier The Affectionate Punch or the compilation of a sequence of eps they released in 1981 (Fourth Drawer Down) which are both uneven but thrillingly ambitious. Perhaps is more of an outlier - derided by critics at the time but due a re-appraisal
