Cherry Red are so good for remasters and reissues. As a fan of The Residents they’ve done me good. GBOL them Cherry Red

Apart from one quite bad remix I really like the new TNPs outtakes album.

Pretty much every song on the Tame Impala album are 1 - 2mins too long

I’ve got the version they put out as a double-pack with “The Glamour Chase” ages ago, but the extras on this new version make it very tempting…

The new Tennis record is the first one I’ve enjoyed the whole way through, deffo the best in their catalog.

Between Tennis and Beach Bunny a release week I had no hope in has come out rather well

Sounds brilliant (like the recent reissues and unlike the earlier Associates releases on CD).

The extras are interesting rather than essential. There was a famous Associates show at Ronnie Scott’s around the time of the album release (with Billy MacKenzie in full jazz lounge mode) which was recorded and various tracks appeared in B-Sides, A full release of that would have been an ace second disc.

Beach Bunny boring for me sadly. Habibi much better. Love it.

Habibi a really nice surprise for me. Great stuff.

Never heard The Associates. Is Perhaps a good place to start?

Enjoying the Bambara record
This track in particular is just full of energy.

They’re one of my favourite ever bands. It’s hard to know where to suggest start because they are wildly varied and experimental. You could go with their dramatic, cold wave electro pop phase (one of my favourite songs of all time):

Or them in full 80s pop mode (the big hit):

Or in ultra torch lounge mode (this is from Perhaps):

Sulk is generally considered their best album (it has the hits on). I can’t really choose between that and the earlier The Affectionate Punch or the compilation of a sequence of eps they released in 1981 (Fourth Drawer Down) which are both uneven but thrillingly ambitious. Perhaps is more of an outlier - derided by critics at the time but due a re-appraisal

Lee Ranaldo is next week I think. The single from the new record is nice though, so more of the same and I’ll be happy.

Enjoyed Tame Impala on first listen.

Yeah just had a look, for some reason it was fed in my recommended album list by the Tidal algorithm but its just a 3 track/single.

I liked what they were going for in the Tame Impala record but felt it would have benefited significantly with some editing.

Thanks!

Giving Fourth Drawer Down a listen now - quite something isn’t it.

Has a bit of the Bowie’s about it for sure. Going to line up Sulk and The Affectionate Punch for later.

Yeah, Lee’s website says 21/2 for the album, so something to look forward to this Friday at least.

Agreed on Tame Impala - not the first time you could probably level this criticism at him. Still think it sounds decent overall though.

haha, ah thanks man! glad you like it. was fun to cut loose and make something 'orrible for a change

Listened to half of the new Kvelertak in the car this morning, it’s bloody great, new fella does a solid job. The 2 singles are perhaps the weakest tracks. Still absolutely recognisable as Kvelertak though in terms of guitar sound and structure, but feels more hardcore punk in places? Still got the metal elements though. One of the tracks sounds like them attempting a pop song and it works.

Yeah, it’s a top album! So much fun!
Put it on yesterday for the first time to get a flavour of the first 2 or 3 tracks…ended up listening to the whole thing.
