Lucero - Should’ve Learned By Now

Whisky soaked Americana tinged punk rock. Think Hold Steady playing Bruce Springsteen songs in a dive bar.

Nand - Wie Es Ist
Don’t know anything about them other than they’re (probably) from Germany. Reminds me of the Bandua album I loved last year. Very low key atmospheric muted horns, piano and vocals. The first few songs are lovely, looking forward to listening to this properly.

Kelora - Gloomerald
Glasgow duo - ‘cyber folk, combining acoustic balladry with homegrown electronic production, which sits alongside pagan imagery of dimly-lit forests and derelict buildings’, apparently.

Mui Zyu - Rotten Bun For An Eggless Century
Debut album from Hong Kong British artist, with ‘chopped up soundscapes, delicate industrial ambience and sweet pop melodies’

Voyou - Les Royaumes Minuscules
French laid back chamber pop, with November Ultra singing on a track.

Megan Alice Clune - Furtive Glances
ambient sort of piano improvisations and hazy sounds.

Algiers - Shook
Post punk. I listened to their first album a lot when it came out and then abruptly forgot they existed. I guess they sound a bit like stuff like Protomartyr.

two good Bristol related albums today

Naut - Hunt. Post-punk / goth, ffo The Sisters Of Mercy, Skeletal Family, March Violets etc

Obey Robots - One In A Thousand. Collab between Laura Kidd (She Makes War / Penfriend) and Rat out of Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. Fizzy guitar bangers, somewhere between punk and indie

Die Wilde Jagd - Ophio
Electronic ambient sounds and muted avant pop.

Otay:Onii - Dream Hacker
Pitchfork gave it a 7.4 and said: ‘Singing in English and Mandarin, the Berklee-educated vocalist and experimental musician uses oddball pop melodies, distorted breaks, and swirling drones to explore themes of anxiety and selfhood.’

Elvis DepressedInly - Who Owns The Graveyard
In which frontman Mathew Lee Cothran seems to have found a vocoder and gone all Cher-like. (or maybe like Lambchop with their experimentations with that vocal style)

Ellis Ludwig-Leone, Attaca Quartet, Eliza Bagg - False We Hope
An orchestral sort of shindig, offering ‘variations on a theme of musical chaos, blending electronic and acoustic sounds to create a unique and intense soundscape that is both jarring and angular while also serene.’

Miss Grit - Follow The Cyborg
Alt-pop, sounds nice.

No albums jumping out for me today, but S.G. Goodman has a new single out.

Hundred Reasons have a new album out today. If they can recapture the brilliance of their early EPs (they won’t) then we’re in for a treat. FFO: MTV2, guitars, hair, going into Different Class records and getting them to show you all the hoodies from the high rack then choosing the first one anyway.
