Yeah, this

Oh is that why the security guys came in?! That was right near me but I couldn’t work out what was going on

Yeah. There were some lads dancing around like crazy, frankly being a pain in the arse, knocking drinks all over. And then an older bloke lost it and just went for one of them

I’d be very up for a High Violet show tbh, it’s my favourite

Aye would be cool if Belfast gets it, as long as the rest of the gig is a best of the rest rather than High Violet + IAETF songs.

what are the stage times like? Driving to Cardiff tomorrow night and wondering what time I need to knock off work

Was 8.45 last night

Jenny Lewis 7.30-8.15

cheers!

Wish I’d seen this earlier! The venue Twitter said ā€œshow starts at 8ā€ so assumed that was the support and ended up missing some of Jenny Lewis.

They mentioned the Brighton trouble mid way through the set by the way and said one of their guys had got hurt pretty bad and asked everyone to behave themselves. No such issues tonight thankfully as best I could see.

Maybe was something different then, as the one near me didn’t lead to injuries, was a scuffle and that’s it

Leeds show was great. One of the best I’ve seen them. Matt appeared to be pretty hammered, and the show teetered on amazing/almost shit at points (forgetting the words to Humiliation, somewhat ironically) but yeah…loved it. Took my son who has wanted to see them for years and they played a lot of his faves. Chap next to us was lovely. There was a spate of faintings which was odd, but handled well by the staff.

That’s weird, the band had to stop a couple of times for people who weren’t well or needed help last night in Cardiff too.

Not one of the best shows of theirs I’ve seen. Not sure whether it was the pacing/song choice or if the sound improved as it went on (probably both), but the second half was so much better than the first.

Yeah, pacing was off midway through, mainly due to all the low-key stuff off of their newie, but this was a more varied set list than I’ve seen them do since they started IAETF tour

Didn’t help much either that when they did play older songs, some of them were slow ones too. As much as I love them, a more upbeat older song would have been better than either Green Gloves or Slow Show.

According to Setlistfm those two were played in a row too, and straight after I Need My Girl and This is the Last Time. I’m not sure that order is right but that’s still a lot of slow or mid tempo songs in the middle of the set.

Blurred/possible set spollerings

Yeah not the best time I’ve seen them but still really enjoyed it. Agree on the pacing and song choices. It needed one of yer Mistaken For Strangers or Abel’s to break up the newer material. Although I wonder whether this was the tone they were going for with these shows?

Gigs at the CIA do seem to suffer from the sound. That usually devastating Devendorf rhythm section lost a bit of their punch with the lack of bass definition. A shame as it could be a great space to see some of the bigger acts who downsize their usual 20,000 capacity venues.

There were some great moments though. Got goosebumps with the ā€˜vote fucking labour’, straight into Mr November. And the crowd singalong for Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks was wonderful. Enjoyed Matt’s accompanying charades to help the crowd with lyrics in the verses too. The new songs made more sense after hearing them live too, Rylan sounded particularly good.

Would totally go see them again if they toured High Violet over here. GBON.

Humiliation was a bit of a shambles unfortunately wasn’t it, Matt didn’t seem especially confident from the start that it would go well to be fair! Also a shame they didn’t do the mad outro to it they were doing a while back but there we go. I did quite enjoy the slightly more toned down encore though, the way Terrible Love slowly built up, and that’s the best version of About Today I think I’ve ever seen from them. Goosebumps.

It was a pretty decent show all in and miles better than when I last saw them in the summer Manchester when the sound was shit and the crowd were full of dickheads, but I did think Matt seemed to struggle a bit vocally at times even from the second song which was exacerbated by the fact he seemed so high in the mix from where I was stood (quite near the front). I get that they’re generally doing slower-paced gigs at the moment which probably reflects the most recent album but I do occasionally yearn for an Abel, a Mistaken For Strangers or something rather than I Need My Girl for the hundredth time. Just personal preference though!

these two songs should really be in every set.

The first guy who fainted, at the beginning of System, was directly behind me. Venue stewards were not interested at all, lucky we managed to get Matt’s attention so he stopped the show. Think / hope the guy will be okay, seemed like a straightforward faint rather than anything more sinister.

Enjoyed it a lot, but definitely agree that the second half was stronger and that we could have had a few more rockers. When they did cut loose the whole thing lifted. Mind you, Vanderlyle was amazing at the end.

Yeah, seeing the slightly one-paced setlists was enough to mean I wasn’t gonna bother with this tour.

Also heard from the barman at The Dry Dock that the band had been there for a few hours in the afternoon, which might go some way to explaining why Matt seemed hammered at the Leeds show.
