Reverend Billy And The Stop Shopping Choir - The Sun Is A Star That Keeps Me Warm
and now for something with fewer likes. An American style preacher and his gospel choir singing about climate change and the perils of capitalism and shopping. They’ve somehow been around for about twenty years now, I saw them at Latitude back then, and another London gig 7 or so years ago. Not even sure if I’ll listen to the whole album, but am happy they’re still going, along with their street singing protests they do over in America.
David Lynch returns to music. Not sure if it nails the surreal, dream-like, slightly chintzy vibe of his best work or actually it’s just a bit of a mess. Time will tell. No doubt I’ll end up listening about 2am in the morning and it will feel absolutely perfect
Demdike Stare have put out a single as part of the excellent Modern Love single series they’ve been doing this year. This one is interesting as it features vocals from the former lead singer of Virginia Wing (also confirms Virginia Wing are definitely done), only available from boomkat for now but guessing it’ll pop in the usual places eventually.
There’s a new Killer Mike album. It’s an epilogue to the not great Michael, but it’s a short 10 track LP, which I’ve heard relatively good things about so far, so I’ll be giving it a go.
And a new Jpegmafia one. Slightly cooler on him since he sold himself short to work with Kanye, but still interested to see what he puts out.
Summertime synth pop bangers from Ormskirk. Not many artists from my neck of the woods so excited to check this out. Chvrches, Grimes & Charli XCX all seem like good reference points.
Yorkshire Ambient/drone artist (who keeps getting misidentified as Welsh in write ups) returns from a lengthy 2 week hiatus to release a concept album journeying through the dreamscape of a dying man as he struggles to make peace with a misspent life as his consciousness gradually dissolves into the void.
I started making this one to cheer myself up y’know. My brain and I need to have words.
I promise this is the last bit of spam from me for a bit.
FFO - EPIC sounding indie rock, like… idk, Pavement remembered through the prysm of Arcade Fire and Bright Eyes? (I’m sure someone will have a more accurate reference but that’s what i’m going with)
