New Releases 03/09/21

Happy Little Simz day!

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert

Excuse the hyperbole but this seems quite likely to be the album of the year, from the undisputed queen of UK rap. Produced by her childhood friend Inflo (of SAULT ‘fame’ - incredible to think they have released all five of their albums since Simbi’s stunning 2019 LP Grey Area).

Is there anything else today?

Not new but the re-release of Heartworm by Whipping Boy is out today. Expecting my delivery at some point from Norman, and it’s up on Spotify.

FFO miserable but uplifting 90s Irish indie

Besides Little Simz, the new SUUNS album is my other big release for today I’m very excited about.

Never sure how to describe them. Sort of warped electronic rock pop? They get labelled as ‘psych rock’ but not sure I hear that.

Regardless their last 3 albums have been amazing.

Quite a bit for me in the album-oriented dance section

Also, a new Drake album??

(Why are Spotify links so iffy??)

C418 the guy who did the Minecraft soundtrack, has an EP out. Hoping it’s more lovely ambient stuff but he’s put out quite a lot of different styles in the past so it could be anything

David Grubbs & Ryley Walker expecting lovely guitary soundtrack vibes from this

Iron Maiden - Senjutsu, FFO air guitar, classic metal, doing dramatic hand gestures while you sing along

New Found Glory - Forever and Ever x Infinite, FFO: Kerrang TV in the early 2000s, going to nostalgia tours and somehow being the oldest person there, pop punk albums over an hour in length (!!!)

Simz is all I need today I think. Currently six tracks in and it’s as excellent as the singles suggested

Teitur - Cazador De Ostras
The only musician I know from the Faroe Islands. Upbeat verging on twee indie pop.

Anna Kruse - Barndomstrad
Swedish sung songs, with strings.

Ruby Haunt - Watching The Grass Grow
Warm melancholic hushed indie.

Summer Heart - Insecurities
Swedish dream-pop.

New Kareem Ali full length

Also worth noting there’s 70% off his entire discography today, which means about £40 for 57 releases.

Ireland’s coming out swinging today.

The remaster of Heartworn by Whipping Boy. Easily one of the greatest albums to come out of Ireland.
Ffo 90’s indie rock, the flaming lips

Some very pretty post rock.

And from some other country, melodic black metal

I’ve got Dana Dentata on atm. Not really sure what this type of music is. It has those clicky drums and rapping and bits of rock and stuff it’s on Roadrunner and is for people who enjoy being 20 years younger than me, like me.

Also out today, Baby Queen, for fans of Pop that’s a bit indie.

Pia Fraus also have a new album, apparently, which I’m pleased to know. Shoegaze from Estonia.

also got Little Simz and Ruby Haunt lined up, of course.

One song into the Baby Queen album and @Gnometorious is already dancing around the kitchen.

Since I’ll be embracing my musical past with the new Iron Maiden album I might as well also give this a try.

The Wildhearts - 21st Century Love Songs

From the first couple of songs it sounds pretty good actually.
