New Chris

New album from Emile Mosseri, his soundtrack to Minari was beautiful, canā€™t work out if this is another soundtrack or a straight-up album. Either way itā€™ll be good

Olof from The Knife and another collab with Mt. Sims

New Janelle Monae is the big one for me today but it isnā€™t on streaming yet, think it will be at midnight LA time

Squid - O monolith

Public Body - Big mess

Really enjoyed Public Body when they supported Traams earlier this year and have been looking forward to their debut for quite a while. Hopefully a few more bangers like No Constraint on there.

Teitur & Aarhus Jazz Orchestra - Songs From A Social Distance
Iā€™ll be in Aarhus for a couple of days later this month, but unfortunately theyā€™re not touring until October. Faraoese singer and a very sumptuous orchestra. Chamber pop style most likely. The first song sounds lovely, even with the incongruous title/lyrics of ā€˜Gmail needs my password againā€™ being repeated.

Quite a bit today feels like the last splurge before festival season of loads of releases. For me itā€™s the new DARKSIDE live album that was recorded when they were practicing last year

A new Michael J Blood x Sockethead which I heard last night which I really enjoyed and canā€™t wait to play at 4 in the morning

And finally a compliation that hasnā€™t been released yet but is due out today

TEKE::TEKE - Hagata

Psych. Canadian 7 piece with members of Japanese heritage. That musical influence from Japan is all over their sound. And their sound is good.

Tenhi - Valkama
Finnish dark mystical folk. First album in 10+ years, but I only recently heard them from their 11 minute Saattue single earlier this year. Iā€™ve been eagerly awaiting this album, as the tracks Iā€™ve heard have been amazing.

Iosonouncane & Paolo Angeli - Jalitah
Italian artist Iosonouncane is a master of broody almost anxiety-inducing sounds, teaming up with a ā€œSardinian sorcerer (who) manually magics beautiful, multi-layered music from his unique prepared guitar: a hybrid orchestra of an instrument with strings going in all directions foot-pedal-controlled motorised propellors and hammers to create shimmering drones and bass-lines as he bows, strikes, plucks and strums while producing rhythmic atospherics by treading on a plastic bag and adjusting tunings on the fly.ā€ - sounds like heā€™d be interesting live!

Benedict Benjamin - Tunnels
First heard him from his Marinerā€™s Children band a while ago. Nice alternative folk, sounds more intriguing than I thought it would.

Jay-Jay Johanson - Fetish
Swedish downbeat electro-pop trip-hop chamber pop.

Decisive Pink - Ticket To Fame
Decisive Pink are Kate NV and Deradoorian. Synthesizer alt-pop.

CV Vision - Im Tal der Stutzer
German electro pop. His new album ā€œis packed full of galloping drums, feudal prog riffs and poetic lyrics harking back to a golden age.ā€

Sivu - Wild Horse Running
Low key indie alt-pop.

Anika - Eat Liquid
Commissioned as a piece to be performed in a planetarium in Berlin, so is a bit spacey and unsettled.

Anni Rossi - Live at St Vitus
Unfortunately not a new album, but some live songs from this Joanna Newsom compared artist, but guitars and not harp.

TEKE:TEKE - Hagata
Not entirely sure if I like this one just yet, but will find out. Japanese psychedilic folk experimental rock band.

Marcela Lucatelli (with Jonas Engel and Maria Portugal) - Live In Koln
Now, Iā€™m fairly certain I donā€™t ā€˜likeā€™ this, and it just popped up as Iā€™m following Maria Portugal, but this sounds bonkers. four live ā€˜songsā€™, with Marcela screaming and making strange wails and demonic babbles throughout, as far as I can tell. It wonā€™t be like anything else that you hear today / this year.

Jayda G - Guy

Disco-house-pop. Second album from the Canadian producer. Her 2020 single Both of Us was massive and while I donā€™t think anything on this album reaches those heights, thereā€™s good stuff here.

Update: I really like the track Scars and enjoyed Circle Back Around. Otherwise, fine but not a massive fan.

Luke Una Presents Ɖ Soul Cultura Vol.2 | Various Artists | MR BONGO (bandcamp.com)

No new music as such but just whacked on the latest edition of Luke Unaā€™s comp series. Lots of bits on the tracklisting familiar from listening to some of his recent radio shows but itā€™s nice to have them all compiled here in their original forms. Expecting some soul, some jazz, some ā€œworldā€, some broken bleepy not quite house.
