planningtorock has a new album out today

New Wave Pictures album today, but otherwise a very quiet week for me. Listening to old Cocteau Twins albums obsessively to fill the gaps.

Have you listened to the SRSQ album, to help scratch that Cocteaus itch?

Two albums in a year? nice. Shelly just came up on my “release radar” just thought it was from Brushes with Happiness.

Do you have a link for the stream?
Love ML but never heard Meg Baird.
Thanks!

It was a pre-release stream I heard because I’m terribly important* but it is up on Bandcamp:

*I really can’t back that up

Cheers that’s great.

I also have no doubt you are colossally important.

Their current method is to record quickly and put out loads of music. Their formula is a simple one and they are such brilliant musicians that can do that pretty easily.

It’s a bit hit and miss - Brushes With Happiness was superb though. The new one is not quite so instantly striking (a bit more of a ‘typical’ Wave Pictures album without the surprising intensity of BWH) but still really enjoyable. David Tattersall doing some wonderful sparkling hi-life guitar throughout.

No. I’ll give it a go.

I’m really glad you gave that last track a shout. The singles did absolutely nothing for me, and I had no interest in listening to the album, but you’re absolutely right. That final track is a stunner.

Excellent, I’m glad it had the same effect on you! The rest of it is starting to grow on me but if that final track wasn’t there I’d probably have never returned to it.

This album is nuts. The bangers are so hard. Some of the best music of the year on here.

Looking forward to this - love Brushes with Happiness (and them generally).

They’re on tour again in the New Year as well.

Emilie Zoé - The Very Start

This is a very lovely album after one listen so far - a Swiss lady with great voice and sound. The album is pay-what-you-can on her bandcamp, and this stripped-back piano song is great: https://emiliezoemusic.bandcamp.com/track/loner

Also, this live studio version of one of her songs with her friends and family singing along and playing percussion is beautiful, especially with the brief bits showing her grandmother taking part:

Really liking this one so far. I agree with your comparison, would add elements of Stateless. I see they have a split with Halves too. There’re bits of that in there too.

I thought I had everything Halves had done! :open_mouth: To the interwebs…
