Minneapolis indie duo. The two pre-release tracks were very catchy.
Kira McSpice - The Compartmentalization of Decay
Gothic folk singer/songwriter from South Salem, New York.
James - Yummy
Anthemic indie. 18th studio album from Tim Booth and band, now expanded to a nine-piece, with vocal harmonies, bits of brass and strings all adding to the overall sound. Could be among the strongest of the late-career James material.
Lakker - Pathway
New EP that came out yesterday. Visceral, moody IDM / techno. I didn’t take to their Gateway EP from Feb as it was a bit desolate but this makes me want to move, especially Surface Drummer. No mean feat at 7:30am.
Just started this and it sounds great already. His mini album from a couple of years ago is a big favourite so I’m hoping the ambient-spiritual vibes continue with this one.
Clarissa Connelly - World of Work
Danish/Scottish artist’s third album, this one on Warp Records. Somewhere between folk and art-rock.
Heavenly Blue - We Have The Answer
Chaotic and occasionally pretty screamo, for anyone who has enjoyed the Frail Body and Infant Island records out this year.
Great Area - Light Decline
I really like this.

Playing bass and singing capriciously over a sequence of sample-heavy productions, London’s enigmatic great area muddles trip-hop, psychedelia and ferric C86 pop on ‘light decline’, released via Lolina’s Relaxin label and tipped if yr into Broadcast, Sarah Records, Hydroplane, HTRK or Carla Dal Forno.
But I particularly enjoyed their own description on their Bandcamp page which doesn’t give you much info about their music but a nice insight into their outlook:
light decline is mostly built from manipulated samples. The lyrics are inspired by and addressed to those who have pissed me off. Bass is the only played instrument.
The songs sound sad, even though ‘sad’ has no real existence - it’s just a sensation produced by atoms ricocheting off each other mechanistically in an otherwise empty void. However this record has a natural tendency towards sad, and it’s worth recognising the significance of that.
Diane Birch - Flying on Abraham
Singer-Songwriter originally from Michigan with 70s AM radio, pop and soul influences. Nice mix of Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell & Laurel Canyon type artists from what I’ve listened to so far.
