Yeah. Well, it doesn’t flatter Kurt Vile much either.

I think it might have made a better EP. However, the first two songs I would leave off are the two they picked for singles.

I think it’s too often an example of artists who are really let do what they want, creatively, by their label, which is normally a good thing, but the two of them also happen to be blindingly enamored with one another. Three artists blindingly enamored, if you count Jen. A lot of what they’ve done this time around is basically insufferably cute. Listening to the record is a little like spending too much time around a new couple who are constantly sitting in each other’s laps.

The Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett record is a real grower. Wasn’t sure at first but I keep getting sucked back in.

Don’t disagree with much of that, although I quite like the two singles. There’s no excuse for Blue Cheese - the most cringeworthy cuteness on the record. The best thing on the album is (ironically) Courtney’s solo cover of Peeping Tom.

I read somewhere that she is struggling to write new songs, which if it is true goes a long way to explaining the existence of this record.

I think I’ve read in the past that she always takes a long time to write lyrics she’s happy with and generally puts herself through long periods of self doubt about her new songs.
I’m not really against stop gap albums - covers, collaborations etc. I’m sure it is all helpful to the creative process.

I thought her debut lacked a bit of the charm of her early EPs but I really like the two songs she’s released since (Three Packs A Day and How to Boil an Egg), still think History Eraser is her best song by a mile.

Thought Murdersburgers was fairly solid KK; though there wasn’t really any standouts that jumped out at me. Did you have any favourite tracks?

Have you or @BarriElCastell given this a listen yet? Gave it a spin earlier today and definitely thought it was on par with PC material. Standouts for me were Eyeballs and Ladies from Houston. Quited enjoyed that there seemed to a be fair bit of sax sprinkled across the record too!

So, I like it when Run Doggy Run kicks in, at track 3, and that enjoyment continues through track 4, It’s a Lie. But I do also have a soft spot for the opener, Discreate Disguise. It may be simple stuff, but great when you are in the mood.

It doesn’t disappoint. I’ve only listened to it twice but already the words are getting burnt into my head. Such a good story teller and lyricist. Standouts so far are the title track, What Do I Do, Eyeballs, Winter in the South and Ladies from Houston… so quite a few. Loving the bursts of jarring guitar (possibly other strings and sax) on What Do I Do over the repetitious down trodden backing track.

Yeah the odd phrase here and there were jumping out at me but will have to investigate further to decipher half the stuff he is singing about.

I’ve not seen Parquet Courts live so I might check him out if he’s touring this record.
