Another New release Friday is here, what’s on your lists?
It’s a Valentine’s Day Rapstravaganza for me…
Westside Gunn - 12
Unsurprisingly given the title, this is the 12th installment of Westside’s HWH series of mixtapes. Stove God Cooks features heavily.
Black Milk & Fat Ray - Food From The Gods
Black Milk on the beats, Fat Ray on the raps & a smattering of fellow Detroiter’s on the features, Danny Brown, Guilty Simpson & Bruiser Wolf.
Brother Ali & Ant - Satisfied Soul
Ali links up with producer Ant (1 half of Atmosphere) for his first album on Mello Music.
MichaelAngelo, Crimeapple & Primo Profit - Escama
First new Crimeapple project of the year, reuniting once again with producer Michaelangelo & bringing Primo Profit along for the ride.
Maze Overlay & Slang Hugh - Word
First album of the year for Phoenix rapper Maze Overlay & despite cover artwork which will only add to @paulo 's impression of him as “grimey looking” the look doesn’t seem to be holding back his progress with this album being put out by Fat Beats.
Good shoegazey stuff from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their fifth album.
Jean Claude Vannier et son orchestre de mandolines
This is a beaut. Vannier composing for mandolin and accordion. His first album since his 2019 collaboration with Mike Patton and I think his first solo album of new material since 1990. FFO Yann Tiersen, Serge Gainsbourg.
HiFi Sean & David McAlmont - Twilight
Downtempo electropop. Companion album to last year’s Daylight by the ex-Soup Dragon with the angelic-voiced McAlmont.
EP/mini-album from French artist Julienne Dessagne reworked from a piece about Theseus and the Minotaur made for a contemporary dance production. Suite of Rooms is “a mesmerizing odyssey of leftfield techno, exquisite kosmische, and vintage soundtrack atmospheres”.
The Nightmares - Fire In Heaven
Indie rock from Newport (the Welsh one) with a little hint of emo to it.
ODDLY - Swerve
Kyoto “odd rock” debut album. “Odd rock” = dream pop-ish indie rock imho.
