Gulp, first time making the new release post, here it goes…
George Klountzos - Semazen - LP - Funk
Broken beat drums with 70s era licks, FFO DJ Shadow. The direction taken with “Holler” and “Speaking Voice / Squeaking Voice” suggests where future albums may go next, really promising. Not out till 18/12,
Not on SongWhip
J.A.K.A.M. - Fragments - LP - Electro World
Technically released in November but only now appearing on streaming et al. Up tempo, deep bass with traditional instrumentation. Personal fave is Me & Country, FFO AG7
Damien Kingston Quartet - Harmony - LP - Jazz
Playful piano & a drummer who likes changing timings makes for a fun headache for the poor bassist. I liked CLFL Maps, Tremors and Session#23 Scratch, but the rest didn’t really work for me.
I was hoping we’d get a thread today - despite the dearth of new stuff - so I had one more place to spam my new album.
Veins Full of Static - No Such Rust
Ambient/drone/experimental electronica about grief, suicide, regrets and other such happy festive topics. Drones, arps, broken piano, field recordings, strings. Not quite sure how to do a FFO for my own work but lets give it a try: FFO Eluvium, Abul Mogard, Benoit Pioulard, that kind of thing.
‘Broken-folk’ duo Lunatraktors as their festive alter egos with this dark take on carols. “The result is a psychedelic take on Yuletide ‘like Mike Oldfield on ketamine’.”
Remastered and reissued (first time on vinyl), this is X-Ray Spex’s second album, which originally came out in 1995, 17 years after their debut. It is closer to alt-rock or pop than the more lo-fi punk sound of Germfree Adolescents - reminds me of Throwing Muses at times - and it’s well worth a listen.
It’s quite good! He’s been quiet for a few years now, had assumed he was working on a new studio album. Delighted with this instead, was an absolute mega fan of his for a long time so happy to have him back in any guise.
‘Psychedelicfolkhop’ from Liverpool. Its mainly psychedelic in the swirly Charlatans-esque style with a bit of folky instrumentation and very few occasions of ‘hop’, hip, trip or otherwise (thankfully so, because they are not def.fo’s forte, in my opinion). God Is In The TV gave it a big old positive 9 out of 10 review.
