Saroos - Turtle Roll
Sixth LP from the German group that have dabbled in downtempo, krautrock-inspired indietronica, post-rock, IDM, etc. The description on bandcamp says to forget everything you know about Saroos, so Iām not sure what Iām saying is actually helpful in any way. Havenāt read the whole thing as itās long but it sounds like theyāre doing more collaborations this time around and some vocals - having been instrumental to this point save for one or two guest vocals. Havenāt heard any singles so really donāt know what to expect, but Iāve been following along since 2006.
Edit: Donāt know why the embedded player is showing different cover art. Maybe itās for the default single.
Clara Engel - Sanguinaria
Theyāre not on Spotify, so will post this bandcamp link now before I forget it. Iām enjoying my first haunting listen. Iāll just post her list of instruments she plays as that is probably a good enough description. Clara Engel: voice, electric cigar box guitar, acoustic guitar, talharpa, gudok, cajón, wooden trunk with soft mallets, tongue drum, melodica
Sixth album from the excellent Mexican duo. Only heard the two pre-release tracks so far but they bode well for the rest. Shoegazey psych meets post-punk.
Man on Man - Provincetown
Queer indie pop. Second album from boyfriends Roddy Bottum and Joey Holman. The single Showgirls is an absolute dream pop banger.
Chocolate Hills, The Orb - Yarns From The Chocolate Triangle
Space ambient? Hot on the heels of the recent Orb album, hereās Alex Paterson teaming up with Paul Conboy for these Yarns From The Chocolate Triangle.
From Boomkat: two young women backed by one of the hardest-charging jazz and funk bands of the Ethiopian scene. The record was a huge hit in Ethiopia in 1976 but was never followed up.
Roger Bekono - Roger Bekono
Central African dance-pop from 1989. Reissued on Awesome Tapes From Africa.
Considering Iāve had about 20ish releases in the past two weeks, which may be more than the whole year combined for me so far, Iām sorta glad that there nothing for me this week! May give Meshell Ndegeocello a listen, though.
Just spotted this on my release radar - continuing the Cabaret Voltaire theme, this collaboration between Philip Jeck (RIP) and one-time Cabs member Chris Watson should be interesting
