New Benni Hemm Hemm album:

Icelandic chap. Really enjoying this song especially:

“Just like humans… Just like vegetables…”
Might be my favourite chorus of the year.

He’s still going? I remember buying a CD of his from a small record shop in Reykjavik about 15 years ago. That’s my Benni Hemm Hemm story.

Nice! Yep, he’s still going. His releases seem to be a bit hit and miss (or hit and indifference), but this one seems good again.

I’ve seen him live a few times, including once at the Luminaire (ahhhh) where the owner had put out a few Luminaire-branded deck chairs for a few lucky early punters (including me!) as the gig hadn’t sold that many tickets. Benni Hemm Hemm had also brought a 10+ piece band with him, with a whole bunch of brass playing folk on stage. No idea how that was even feasible for him.

And I also have another Benni Hemm Hemm story which is actually a story by Benni Hemm Hemm (written in Icelandic):

Gorgeous new ambient piece from worlds end girlfriend

This Plone album is straight up gorgeous. I think that Ghostbox stuff can be a bit formulaic at time but they use similar influences as those and take it in a more playful, joyful direction. Beautiful and strangely moving.

Think it’s a v good Fiona Apple album but I’m surprised at the 10.

“No music has ever sounded quite like it” – well, for a start, it sounds quite similar to the last Fiona Apple album m9.

Think it’s one the fans will absolutely love, but not sure it’ll go beyond that to convince all the doubters/casuals too of her genius too, as MBDTF did by and large.

fiona apple sounding very very strong. prefer to the last one already which, i’m sorry, never really clicked

Cheers pal - means a lot

That’s a weirdly absurd claim to make isn’t it, when anyone could easily name quite a lot of music that sounds like it. To me it seems to distract from what is otherwise perfectly warranted praise. She definitely has a very individual lyrical voice but there’s nothing massively innovative about it musically.

Martin Grech is a great shout folks! Cheers

Still really like the debut album. One of my better random buys at the time.

Plone - Puzzlewood and Steve Hadfield - Unreality for me today!

Had Puzzlewood for the better part of a week already (Ghost Box’s covid-19 distribution methods somehow messing with the time continuum…), and it is not a disappointment, when it so easily could have been. I dusted off my copy of For Beginner Piano in anticipation a while back and the new material fits right alongside. Love it, love that they’re back, super hopeful that missing second album gets a proper release.

Listened to Unreality while doing the dishes and making stock this afternoon (domestic bleeps!) so I’ll be giving it some proper attention later today, maybe sitting in the sun. Sounds lovely so far, the opening track is gloriously disorienting!
