Yeah, I thought that. Might be because it’s an audio visual thingy. Don’t think Panda Bear’s involved either.
Thee Oh Sees for me, and will check out Mitski now too (ta, for the tip)
Otherwise there’s an album by Cullen Omori out if anyone likes that kind of thing.
Yeah enjoyed his debut so I’ll be giving this a go too
I’m looking forward to the Trevor Powers album. Is there a reason he gave up the Youth Lagoon name - were they actually a band instead of a solo project? Sounds pretty much the same!
As for similar sounds to the bit you highlighted, I’d suggest Soap&Skin’s Lovetune For Vacuum album, which is one of my favourites ever. Lots of almost scary sounding electronic bits mixed with other more delicate bits. Maybe this song in the second half is a bit similar?
Y’know - the Death Cab record is actually pretty nice. Short and enjoyable. Gonna get on Mitski later - really enjoyed the singles
All her albums are only 30 minutes long though aren’t they?
Death Cab
Mitski
Oh Sees, been rinsing Orc this week… Never fully clicked with them before now but starting to really love them.
Will check out the new Disintegration State release too
First time in weeks/months that I’ve been excited for some new releases.
Cos it’s shite apparently
Listening to it now. It’s ok so far - sounds quite dark. It does feel like it’s missing Panda Bear already though.
Probably because the last one was shite.
Ah, I see someone’s already said something similar. They’re just not what they were, or anywhere near.
My thoughts almost exactly. Hopeful it’s just a first spin thing too
Yeah, really unimpressed on first listen…
I quite enjoyed it on first listen, looking forward to spending a bit more time with it.
Only had one listen so far too, hoping it grabs me a bit more. Is anyone else finding the production a bit lacklustre? Sounds a bit tinny to me, actually thought my headphones were bust when it first started. Maybe over reacting
Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy it, it just didn’t blow me away. As said, hopefully repeated listens will reveal more than I got from it first time around
Sounds like St Vincent b-sides
Mitski natch
Pitchfork gives it an 8.8.
I agree with you. I like it but not grabbed by it. Our Girl was far the strongest of the two albums I listened to today.
Nonetheless, I loved Mitski’s previous two albums and have tickets for her Shepherds Bush Empire gig and so obviously will re-listen quite a few times.
Connor youngblood sounds pretty nice on first listen. Lots of reverby piano and floaty production
