Gary Wilson

As Beck once said, “My man, Gary Wilson, rocks the most!” New album from the king of weirdo, outsider funk. FFO Ween, Louis Cole, Silver Apples, The Space Lady, The Shaggs

Cautious Clay - Karpeh

Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter quite literally jazzing up his soulful R&B as he moves to Blue Note for his second LP and brings in guest spots from Arooj Aftab, Julian Lage, Immanuel Wilkins and Ambrose Akinmusire for a highly personal album in three cycles. Quite excited for this one, feels like this xould be a similar leap forward to Michael Kiwanuka’s self-titled album (which applies here too actually).

Catchy, sugary garage / power pop in the same vein as yer Jason Molinas et al but the singing also has something vaguely Beatles about it.

Miso Extra - MSG

Bedroom indie pop EP, quite nice, like a super chilled Jai Paul / Yaeji crossover.

Movements for me

Hozier - Unreal Unearth

I for one actually liked Take Me to Church, but then because it was everywhere I assumed I wouldn’t like anything else so never listened to another song. Am curious enough to check this album out though as it’s been getting some good reviews, including this one which says this album “follows his established pattern of tracing fable, folklore, and the high drama of Greek mythology onto the landscape of modern politics” and I truly don’t know if that is genuine or a joke.

Really solid straight up pop punk

Werkha - Beat Tapestry

Got onto these guys when @incomplete described them as modern dance jazz-funk, broken beat and breakbeat, and I think that still stands, with their own description being “arious beats and bobs from Werkha’s harddrive, ranging from slow synthy grooves, to wonky astral house vibes, up to funky 140bpm territory”.

Killah Priest - Vedic Vape Room

East Coast hip-hop from a Wu-Tang Clan associate whose recent work has been arguably some of the best of his career. This sounds good so far.
