New Releases 19/11/21

Got anythiy today that’s caught your eye?

Chelsea Wolfe and Converge - Bloodmoon: I

Don’t think there’s too much to say about this.

Various Artists - 10 Years of Double Double Whammy

My favourite label turns 10. So what better way than getting a bunch of the roster to cover each other. Featuring Frankie Cosmos, Lomelda, Hovvdy and a lot more. Indie pop heaven

All about Converge for me today, Clive.

Excited by this too

‘Modern classical’ but so much more than that genre label suggests.

Neoclassical / electronica with strong Arabic / North African influences. Noticed a track is in the latest music league, so someone here is onto it already

And in reissue land there’s a great Springsteen set from 1979 out

12 year old me would be furious if I didn’t give this at least one spin today

New Releases collaborative playlist is ready to be filled up again!

Top two for me today:

Makaya McCraven - Deciphering The Message

Makaya let loose to remix his choice from the Blue Note’s vaults, I imagine is high on most DIS Jazz fans lists today.

Bonus listening Blue Note have put together a playlist of the original tracks;

Stalley & Apollo Brown - Blacklight.

Stalley’s first album for Mello Music Group, I’m expecting some soulful Hip-Hop here.

Jimmy Eat World have done a live version of Clarity, which is an all-timer for me, emo goodness all round.

Elbow have a new album, didn’t give the last one too much time but I’ve had the single Six Words on almost constant repeat as it’s so gorgeous so I’m looking forward to this.

Ben LaMar Gay - Open Arms to Us

A paean to rhythm, this album from Chicago jazz experimentalist Gay has Angel Bat Dawid, Rob Fryw and Ohmme amongst the lengthy credits.

Body/Dilloway/Head - Body/Dilloway/Head

Kim Gordon collab project featuring “guitars and vocals and magnetic tape and amplification”.

Brian Wilson - At My Piano

Solo renditions of Beach Boys hits and some from Smile.

Cassandra Jenkins - (An Overview on) An Overview on Phenomenal Nature

Sketches, demos and other cutting room floor sounds from an album that has a lot of fans on this board.

Clams Casino - Winter Flower

Mellow instrumental EP from the rap producer.

Coldcut & Mixmaster Morris - @0

Ancient compilation curated by Coldcut featuring
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Suzanne Ciani, Juliana Barwick, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Laraaji, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Helena Hauff, Skee Mask, Mira Calix…

Donato Dozzy - 124

Innate groove and inventive sound design push informing minimal and serene techno.

Jessy Lanza - DJ Kicks

Latest instalment of the mix series finds Jessy “in pursuit of the bleary 4 AM feeling; the moment when you hear sweet soul-burner vocals with drum patterns that won’t let you go home”

Kaytranada - Intimidated
3 track EP from the Grammy winning producer featuring Thundercat, H.E.R. and Mach-Hommy.

Myele Manzana - Crisis & Opportunity Vol. 2 - Peaks

2nd volume this year of a series of jazz records by the New Zealander drummer/composer/producer/beatmaker now based in London, with a band that has shared stages with Hiatus Kaiyote, The Bad Plus and Alfa Mist.

Pigeon - Yagana

Debut EP of Afro-disco, grunge, no wave and jazz, with powerful vocals of Guinean singer Falle Nioke and a band that has backed Michael Kiwanuka, Little Simz, Cleo Sol and SAULT.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Raise the Roof

Led Zeppelin singer and country star with another collaboration, this time for a covers record (confusingly not only of Kasabian tunes).

Sarah Davachi & Sean McCann - Mother of Pearl

Up on steaming one week late, improvisational autumnal ambience.

µ-Ziq & Mrs Jynx - Secret Garden

Planet Mu head Mike Paradinas past label signee Hannah Davidson come together in the wake of personal loss, softening the former’s drill’n’bass with psychedlic haze to make a defiantly upbeat balm of a record.

Kaytranada - Intimidated

Just noticed that @Octobadger has covered this in his post so I’ve removed the link.

I’m on board with your thinking today, Makaya & Apollo Brown were high on my list too.

Gonna try and check these out along with some of the recs above

Deap Vally - Marriage

Fuzzy catchy rock from recent Flaming Lips collaborators

Leonie Pernet - Le Cirque de Consolation

French synth pop

Charles Rumback - Seven Bridges

Drummer gathers various collaborators for a low key jazzy set with a nicely adrift mood. Looks like this also has someone from Ohmme in, glad they’re dabbling around the place

Mr Twin Sister - Al Mundo Azul

New album from the New York Indie-pop shapeshifters.
