Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan - The Nation’s Most Central Location
Fourth album exploring new towns and their impact on the lives and minds who worked and lived there - the previous three have been great. FFO Pye Corner Audio, Jean-Michel Jarre, brutalist architecture.
Tinariwen - Amatssou
From Piccadilly Records: the Tuareg band’s trademark snaking guitar lines and hypnotic rhythms blend seamlessly with pedal steel, piano and strings from guest musicians including Daniel Lanois.
bar italia - Tracey Denim
Hotly tipped indie band. FFO The Raincoats, Pavement, The xx, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Debut album from these bay area musicians. Taking big inspiration from 60s and 70s eurosoundtracks and library music, this lot create a soundtrack to a film that only exists in their mind.
(If you like Surprise Chef or that Whatitdo Archive Group album from a couple of weeks ago, you’ll love this)
Sarabeth Tucek is the big one for me. Her first album for twelve years, and the follow up to one of my favourite records of the 2010s. The early singles suggest a sort of Loaded-era VU sound.
Califone - Villagers
Plenty of new stuff out today, but let’s start with Califone! Experimental alt-country/indie/whatever. Have liked the couple of singles I’ve heard so far.
Khanate - To Be Cruel
Drone metal supergroup featuring Stephen O’Malley from sunn o))). Expect a relentless, unpleasant, grimm listening experience.
Ghost - Phantomime
Theatrical metal band’s EP of covers. Ghost are fun but were better when they sounded like Blue Oyster Cult.
Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden
Anonymous British melodic metal collective with good masks. Basically this band sounds like Bastille but with big overproduced guitars and chuggy riffs.
Just mandy, Indiana and Sufjan Stevens for me today I think. Got the Mandy, Indiana on now and liking it three tracks in. Reminds me a fair bit of Factory Floor. Miss that band.
On FlyLo’s Brainfeeder label, and featuring guest spot from Soccer96. Full sounding, mix of downbeat, r&b, indie and electronica - “she creates a blend of experimental dreamy sounds with jazz influenced vocals and keys.”
