A good month continues…

Sunset Rubdown - Always Happy to Explode

Spencer Krug and friends release their first album in 15 years.

Thurston Moore - Flow Critical Lucidity

Another late career record from the Sonic Youth legend. Laetitia Sadier guests on one track.

What else ya got?

Bright Eyes - Five Dice All Threes

Fairly swiftly following the last release, new folky/emo/Americana.

Singles were great, so fully up for this one.

Downhaul - How to Begin

Emo vibes on this new record for the Richmond based indie rockers. 10 tracks in under 25mins. A nice mix of emo, indie and alt country.

Ibukun Sunday - Harmony/Balance

Lagos-based artist mixing ambient and electronics with field recordings.

Astrid Sonne - EDITS

Remixes of her Great Doubt album - one of my highlights of the year to date.

Tim Reaper & Kloke - In Full Effect

Apparently, this is the first jungle album on Hyperdub. Don’t know any more, but was recommended on Resident Advisor.

A couple of Hip-Hop/Rap albums on my list today…

The Alchemist - The Genuine Article

Alc on the beats & bars, with features from ScHoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Larry June, Havoc & Conway.

Blu & Exile - Love (the) Ominous World

Think this is the 4th or 5th collaborative album between Blu & Exile, Blu’s had a hit & miss year for me, but his most recent produced by Evidence was a hit so I’m hoping that reuniting with Exile helps him hit again. Georgia Anne Muldrow, Fashawn & Aloe Blacc amongst the features.

Kublai Khan TX - Exhibition Of Prowess
Texan meathead hardcore, FFO the gym, WWE, Hatebreed, crowd killing. I am quite looking forward to blasting this in the car on my way to work like extended entrance music.

Power violence/fastcore

They know what they’re doing these lot. Consistently great. It’s been a great year for power violence. Think the state of the world calls for it

Katy J Pearson - Someday, Now

Third album for pop singer-songwriter Katy J Pearson. Her previous stuff has had the occasional country or folky side to it, but not hearing any of that on the pre-release tracks for this one.

Weak Signal - Fine

New York fuzzy guitar trio. Gonna quote Rosy Overdrive quoting somebody else: “I’m not one to often quote other music writers in my own writing, but Andy Cush (of The Bird Calls and the website “Pitchfork”) referred to Weak Signal as “Yo La Tengo, if Yo La Tengo gave you the vague sense that they might mug you with a butterfly knife after the show” last year, and there’s no sense trying to come up with a more succinct descriptor as that”.

Mt Fog - ultraviolet heart machine

Seattle synthy art pop.

Nina Ryse - Water Giants

Lo-fi wonky pop from one of the members of Palberta.

“Nina Ryser’s music has always inhabited its own world; a singular and cohesive collection of Keyboard-centric home recordings that marry her undeniable pop sensibilities with a truly bizarre dreamlike aesthetic”.

Big Ups - Eighteen Hours Of Static (Hxπ Decoded)

10th anniversary of the New York post-hardcore band’s debut album sees a reissue accompanied by this album of remixes.

BEEF - Il Manzo EP

Cincinnati garage rockers following up last year’s self-titled album with this EP bashing through 4 songs in 7 minutes.

Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway - Into The Wild EP

More excellent bluegrass/pop stuff from Molly Tuttle and band.

Clinic Stars - Only Hinting

Have really enjoyed the pre release track, a blend of post rock, shoegaze, and dream pop

Erland Cooper - Carve The Runes Then Be Content With Silence

In May 2021, he planted the only existing copy of the master tape of his first classical album in Orkney, Scotland, deleting all digital files and leaving only a treasure hunt of clues for fans and his record label alike to search for it.

Revealing the unearthed tape from the soil and with a large string ensemble, led by solo violinist Freya Goldmark, they will perform the album exactly as it sounds from the earth

ASHRR - Sunshine Low

Disco/Electro/Balaeric psych pop bangers from LA.

Edit to remove KJP as just beaten by @dantrobus !

Honeyglaze - Real Deal

Knotty trio with some much prettier and shimmering moments, and sometimes more aggressive and mathy. Saw them briefly in a support slot for Wet Leg on their first small tour

FFO English Teacher, Speedy Ortiz, Wombo

Indigo De Souza - WHOLESOME EVIL FANTASY EP

Excellent confessional indie rocker with a warped, punchy electro EP. Not a huge surprise given some of the vocoder use on her albums, but still quite a shift. Cool though
