🎄 🎄 New Releases - 20th December 2024 🎅 🧑‍🎄

Are there any?

Yes!

Frontierer - THE SKULL BURNED WEARING HELL LIKE A LIFE VEST AS THE NIGHT WEPT

Silly name, savage music. Techy noisy metalcore. FFO Meshuggah, Every Time I Die, Botch that kind of thing.

Anything else good out?

V/Z (Valentina Magaletti & Susumu Mukai) - It is cold in Baltimore

Came out on Monday, this latest album from Valentina Magaletti (TOMAGA, Moin, Holy Tongue, Vanishing Twin, etc.) and Susumu Mukai aka Zongamin. Their 2023 album Suono Assente was great and they’re back with more “mesmerizing rhythms, dreamy soundscapes, oddball samples, sub-bass detonations, and blasts of electronic scree. All with DIY post-punk spirit”. Doesn’t seem to be on Spotify.

The Black Dog - Live At The ICA

Feels like we’ve had a new release from Sheffield ambient techno duo The Black Dog most weeks this year. This week it’s a live album from their sold-out ICA show. Not (yet?) on Spotify either.

Magic User - Shadow On The Door

Debut album of fuzzy slacker rock from this Oakland quartet. Came out last Saturday.

Frail Talk - Little Al Elemental Suite
I discovered their August album too late for the weekly threads, but it’s so lovely. A bit like a mix of Big Thief and Freelance Whales maybe. This is just an EP with different versions of one of their songs from that album, but they’re all nicely different reworkings. Worth checking out, and then the album too.

Gazelle Twin - The Visitor

Soundtrack to the recent BBC radio adaptation of The Man Who Fell To Earth. Lots of analogue synth and theremin.

Pye Corner Audio - Underneath

New single that’s a taster for the Where Things Are Hollow boxset, due in February, which will collect the first two WTAH EPs from 2017 and 2020 with a third collection of new material and a bunch of remixes.

If you’re a PCA completist, which I threaten to be sometimes, his Bandcamp page has plenty of name your price tracks from this year, and I’m expecting a Christmas song in the next few days, as usual!

I have an album of unreleased and live sessions from this year out today. Was worried I wouldn’t have much this year but after looking back i’m pretty pleased with what I have put together. Quite a mix of genres and styles.

One man atmospheric/post/melodic black metal artist Ammanas released an excellent EP of Tolkein and Malazan inpired epic black metal earlier in the year that I loved. The tracks from that EP now appear on this full length released today. Good job my end of year list is yet to be finalised!

This deluxe version of SOS out yet?

I’ve been checking Spotify daily since Monday for this one, frustrating! Gonna have to listen on BC I guess.

Ok this new V/Z is really good, likely surpassing their debut. If you’re on the fence, get off the fence. Buying now.

R.A.P. Ferreira - Outstanding Understanding
The other seemingly Bandcamp-only release I was looking forward to today. More abstract hip-hop from the Nashville rapper & producer. Had a listen this morning, sounds good.

Yeah, it’s dropped now.

SZA - SOS Deluxe: LANA

Frontloads 15 new tracks onto SOS, which came out 2 years ago (!).

So the 1st 15 are basically LANA?

Yep. Weird how she’s selling this as a deluxe after so long and not a new album :man_shrugging:

Think she said a new album as well by the end of the year?
