The Sick Man of Europe - The Sick Man of Europe

Debut album, on The Leaf Label.

From Electronic Sound: “Blends pulsating motorik beats, nagging basslines and droning electronics into all-consuming atmospheres. Fronted by foreboding vocals that sit somewhere between Ian Curtis’ melancholic baritone and something more experimental, phrases are repeated over and over like mantras, slowly building in intensity until the words take on entirely new meanings”

Dawuna - Love Jaunt

Lad’s really is going to make an absolute amazing straight pop song one day, for now what he’s doing is great.

Two more albums on my radar today:

OSMIUM – OSMIUM

Collaboration featuring composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, James Ginzburg (emptyset, Subtext), Rully Shabara (Senyawa), and sound designer Sam Slater. Abrasive, guttural, industrial folk / doom metal / experimental noise.

ZÖJ – Give Water To Birds

Australian trio releasing their second album of Iranian poetry backed by kamancheh, qheychak alto, drums, guitar and field recordings.

Might give her new one a listen for old times sake, but I’ve never understood the love for In A Poem Unlimited. Her preceding album Half Free is so much better. Nothing on Poem compares with ‘Damn That Valley’, ‘Window Shades’, ‘Navy & Cream’, ‘Woman’s Work’ etc

Amazing song/album/person. Shared a big long-read with her this week, in case anyone’s interested in a little more context to it all.

no Scottish date

Yeah, I thought both Snapping Turtle and Heaven Song sounded ace on my first listen through.

Already had her on my shortlist when she’s in the UK later in the year, but just bumped her up the list after hearing this new album.
