Seems to be a quieter week, which I’m glad about. Enjoying the already mentioned Emiliana Torrini album. Looking forward to trying the Nuno Beats, Zero 7/Swim Surreal collab and Been Stellar ones from recommendations above. Also:
Th Blisks - Elixa
Australian DIY trio reunite for their second album of dubby, trip-hoppy sort of stuff (“their mutant strain of melodica dub, torched hip hop breaks, post-punk and procession song” says the bio).
d’Eon - Leviathan
Montreal artist’s “digital chamber pieces midway between Baroque fugues, Japanese RPG video game soundtracks, and the left-field of MIDI-fuelled contemporary electronic music”. For fans of Anna Meredith.
Sadeedo - The Desert Island
Ibiza resident with this EP of laid-back tropical funk and soul beats.
Various Artists - In Pursuit of Pleasure (fabric SELECTS IV)
‘In Pursuit of Pleasure’ is a curation of music comprised of trans, non-binary, queer and LGBTQIA+ allies in the music community with an emphasis based around collaboration and community – featuring the more leftfield side of electronic and experimental music and released by fabric, the nightclub and record label based in East London.
For anyone buying it through Bandcamp, there’ll be an (unspecified) donation to the LGBTQIA+ charity Rainbow Migration “a charity for those who seek asylum due to their sexual orientation where their welfare maybe at risk.” [Edit: there’s also a bonus track by Bored Lord for Bandcamp buyers]
Second album from the successor band to Cashier No.9 who don’t sound a whole lot different to their previous band. Formerly on Bella Union but looks like they’ve gone it alone for this album. A nice lean 32 minutes.
Marcella Detroit - Jewel (Remastered and Expanded)
30th anniversary of Marcella Detroit’s solo album, originally released after she got fired from Shakespear’s Sister. A remastered version is out now with a bunch of remixes, acoustic versions and whatnot added. I’m a massive fan of Shakespear’s Sister and Marcella Detroit, but I find this album a bit patchy. If nothing else, it’s a good excuse for me to re-listen to I Believe, one of the great pop ballads.
Ukrainian born Brooklyn raised Rapper, who’s been on the Indie/Underground Hip-Hop scene for a decade. I think @JaguarPirate might have submitted one of his tracks in Music League before?, anyway he’s always worth a listen IMO.
