Cinder Well - Cadence
It’s a brilliant year so far for fans of darker, haunting folk stuff, what with Lisa O’Neill, Lankum and Hack-Poets Guild among others. Here’s another one that’s really ticking my boxes by Cinder Well who is Amelia Baker bringing her California coast and West of Ireland influences together. Cormac MacDiarmada of Lankum provides strings on this.

Lael Neale - Star Eaters Delight
I really, really like the three pre-release tracks from this album so high hopes for this one by the Virginia artist. ‘Minimalist transcendental pop’ and ‘space folk’ are two of the genre tags on Lael Neale’s Bandcamp page and they give a pretty good idea of what to expect from this album, her second on Sub Pop.

Rodrigo y Gabriela - In Between Thoughts... A New World
Mexican duo’s first full-length album in four years, adding electronics and orchestral elements to their virtuoso guitar playing.

Esther Rose - Safe to Run
Country artist’s fourth album. Lead single Safe to Run features Hurray for the Riff Raff. Quite country-pop sounding from the two pre-release tracks I’ve heard. And a bit of pedal steel going on, so I’m happy.

Holiday Ghosts - Absolute Reality
Falmouth garage pop. For fans of The Bug Club.

Cinder Well, Label and Esther are all on my list, so looking forward to checking them out!

Holy Roman Army -Modern European
Irish band’s first release in ten years. Glitchy electro indie not a million miles away from The Notwist.

Pearl & The Oysters - Coast 2 Coast
Sun-blissed dreamy psych pop.
“the listener is taken on a leisurely, sun soaked trip around the duo’s technicolour paradise, an island full of candy cane synthesisers and deceptively funky bass lines.”

Lucio Corsi - La Gente Che Songa
Italian upbeat baroque pop.

Fred und Luna - Im Fünfminutentakt
“an exquisite selection of contemporary krautish instrumental and vocal pieces with a sensitive feel for repetitive rhythms, enchanting melodies and mesmerizing sounds.”

Can’t believe I checked her Spotify page this morning and missed this. Bleary-eyed idiot I am. One of my favourites from the last few years. This sounds excellent on first listen. Purposely not listened to many of the pre release singles to keep this fresh.

Bane / Comeback Kid / sort of American Nightmare style hardcore punk.

The St. Pierre Snake Invasion - Galore

Album 3 from the Bristol lads, and it fucking rips. Noisy, mathy hardcore, loads of synths, proper chaotic and beautiful at the same time. Might be their best work to date, just incredible.

This will make you want to rip your shirt off and swing it round your head.

Second album in two years from the fantastic genre-spanning R&B/pop artist Dreamer Isioma, both the singles were great so can’t wait to get into the rest.

Portrayal of Guilt – Devil Music

Screamo / Black metal / Sludge metal

It’s an experimental approach to writing heavy music that offers five new original songs on Side A; and then a reimagining of those same five songs on Side B, replacing much of the traditional guitars and bass setup with an orchestral string section, acoustic bass, and brass

Released 20th April

So far not mentioned…

Hely - Plode - LP - Jazz Fusion
High tension, panicked music that feels it’s always chasing a solution. Piano + drums and it’s all great.

Just Everything But the Girl and Ital Tek on my list today.

Ital Tek. Dark atmospheric/cinematic synth electronic music to drive Tron bikes to inside an 80s computer. FFO fans of Lorn, Kuedo etc.

ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT

Collaboration between Efrim of GYBE and one of Broken Social Scene that seems to have a suspicious lack of interest.

“ The record’s melancholic yet resolute hopefulness shines through in electronic shoegaze suffused with freak-folk, kosmische, darkwave and post-industrial. Flowing from ambient minimalism to pulsing maximalism, conjuring traditionals sung in the haze of earliest light accompanied by overdriven circuit boards which are powered with ungrounded wires.”

Early listen suggests it has a lot more melody to it than the description indicates. Definitely gonna give this a couple listens.
