afrojazz tip of the week (though they’re from Brussels apparently). Some tasty keyboard tones doing that ethio-wibble

and there’s these optimistic sounding fellas from South Africa doing a modern Zulu thing. Even a little “Awimbawe” chucked in there

The songs I’ve heard from the new Jim Ghedi have been good, and enjoyed the last one, so will pop this on later.

Will give this a listen

Third time through the James Yorkston album already. Love it. The fuller sound really works for him.

Carm up next. Lots of horns with a Sufjan appearance.

I love it when it’s Friday, but I forget that it’s new release day until I see this thread pop up and I excitedly rush to my Release Radar section of Spotify. Thanks for the Typhoon album mention, as I wasn’t aware of that. Will check it out later. And the Hovvdy covers ep.

Will also be checking out the already mentioned Kiwi Jr, Biosphere, James Yorkston, and Still Corners albums.

Other albums on my radar:

Another apparently Covers EP by some French lady called Peppermoon, singing in French. Sounds quite lovely and sweet from the first track:

Some musician called TRZTN, with lots of guest singers. I don’t really know anything about him, but just heard a song of his with Jonathan Bree singing on it. Karen O is singing on another song. And then a bunch of other singers that I don’t recognise but maybe others might.

And an instrumental album by Emika and Paul Frisk. Sounding a bit like what I am imagining the Biosphere album to sound like. But I might be wrong, especially if the Biosphere album sounds different than the previous stuff I’ve heard (or remembered)

A lot more releases than I was expecting today, although I think next week should hopefully be my favourite!

Bicep and James Yorkston are the big 2 today for me but there’s been a few recommendations in here already I’ve added to the list plus the following:

Caroline Shaw - Narrow Sea
Folky hymns from the youngest winner of the Pulitzer prize for music, who has contributed to works by Kanye West and The National.

Arthur Hnatek Trio - Static
Improvisational jazz influenced by electronic music, the Swiss drummer’s trio’s new album has captured my interest with a reinterpretation of Squarepusher’s MIDI Sans Frontiere from last year.

Elori Saxl - The Blue of Distance
“Combining processed recordings of wind and water with analog synthesizers and chamber orchestra,” getting shades of Brian Eno and Philip Glass from an early listen.

Here Lies Man - Ritual Divination
Metal (of the early 70s variety) with an alleged smattering of Afrobeat courtesy of two of the members of Antibalas

Logic 1000 - You’ve Got The Whole Night to Go
New EP from the up and coming producer of house bangers

Mason Lindahl - Kissing Rosy in the Rain
Atmospheric instrumental guitar

Self titled EP out from Club Sinister out today. Shimmery 80s goth sounding, think the cure crossed with Cocteau twins vocals or something (I’m not any good at write ups)

Looking forward to giving this a spin later - can’t beat a triple LP!

Kiwi Jr. very good on first listen, kept my attention the whole way through which wasnt the case for the debut. Think 80s R.E.M jangle fronted by a Pavement-type singer.

Finger on the bleeding edge pulse of artists that I actually like right here…

Thought this was out next month

Didn’t even know that this was a thing :woman_shrugging:

This is really ace!

Big thumbs up for Kiwi jr. A really good collection of jangly indie pop. A good step up from the first album.
