Two big EP’s today. Both excellent.

John Glacier - sort of lofi British indie rap.

And Aya - leftfield alt dance.

Two of my absolute favourite current artists.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Fantasies (EP)
Indie Pop/Rock

Companion EP to last year’s My Big Day

I found her last album a little bit too down tempo, but this one is immediately (he says halfway through) more fun. fully embracing the 80s synthpop suits her. Very excited to see her again on Wednesday.

Thee Alcoholics - Feedback
Noise rock on Rocket Records. Churning riffs, vocals buried low in the mix, squeals of sax. FFO: Hey Colossus, The Saint Pierre Snake Invasion, USA Nails

God, these were so terrible…find it hard to believe they have got that much better but I’ll give it a go…… that artwork though :joy:

Decent sounding new crusty hardcore from that London

I’ve got it on now, it’s alright - miles away from when they were a MySpace hype band. More slap bass than I was prepared for though.

Hans Zimmer - Dune: Part Two (OST)

Probably won’t be listening to this until after I’ve seen the film but the Sountrack is out for anyone who’s into it.

FFO: Synthesizers, Space Bagpipes, big BWAAAAAHHHH noises

Erika De Casier - Still
3rd album by the Danish singer/songwriter. I somehow missed that she released her second back in 2021 which is odd cuz I really liked Essentials

Persher - Sleep Well
Noise-rock with added electronics by Blawan and Pariah.

Sandwell District - WHERE NEXT ?
Compilation of work by the techno collective that ran from 2002 to 2011, whose members included Function, Regis, and Silent Servant who sadly passed away last month.

Not a fan of the vocals from a brief blast, sounds a bit comical :grinning:.

Yeah I’ll glance at that. Right now in fact.

Edit: Got 2 tracks in and gave up. Not the fun kind of pop punk, too serious and earnest for me.

Some good stuff around today, Laetitia Sadier, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mary Timony, Real Estate, Thee Alcoholics and Maya Shenfeld as already mentioned (Allie X also already mentioned but I’m going to mention it again for poll formatting reasons). Also:

LAIR - Ngélar

Indonesian psych. Their second album.

Genital Shame - Chronic Illness Wish

From Pittsburgh, Genital Shame is Erin Dawson’s trans woman black metal project. This is her debut album.

Ghost Funk Orchestra - A Trip To The Moon

Fifth album of psychedelic soul jazz funk from Seth Applebaum and friends.

Allie X - Girl With No Face

Odd disco-synth bangers from Canadian artist, Alexandra Hughes. Like this.

El irreal Veintiuno - LADO B

Electronica. Mexican producer with this EP that, according to a google translate of the Bandcamp blurb, is “a sonic journey that expands and reimagines the boundaries of krautrock and electro”.

Jalen Ngonda - Illusions

New single from the adopted scouser, out on the Daptone label. His debut album was one of my Albums of the Year in 2023. This is lovely too.

Yeah really rate this. Not breaking new territory but they have got bags of characters and the expected beautiful sonics framing strong tunes. Been listening all week as picked up the cd at the slowdive gig where they put in a lovely set and the LP has exceeded my expectations - album tracks are at least the equal of the singles too.

Yet another Sonic Cathedral win
