Some buddies of mine released a record today and it’s great.

I really like the BLH album but I get where you’re coming from. The one song I can’t get fully onboard with is 10,000 Miles; Nic Jones has already recorded the definitive version for me so any other version is a waste of time.
I think all mine have been mentioned already and described in enough detail (Wolf Parade/ Andy Shauf, BLH, Caspian)
I don’t think anyone has mentioned the Ezra Furman soundtrack for Sex Education yet. I haven’t seen the programme or listened to it yet so unsure of what its like, but if it’s like his regular output I’m expecting jagged indie pop punk with darker edges. But it could be instrumental soundscapes for all I know
will report back
New Caspian is out today. Their last album was one of the best of the last decade but I’m not sure I like post rock enough to care anymore.
Let’s find out. ![]()
There’s also, finally a studio version of The Sisters of Mercy’s version of Jolene.
It’s not very good
Wire album is decent. find a lot of their later stuff sounds the same but the new one is a bit more wilfully odd than the last few (i did think the last one was a pretty solid effort though)
gonna listen to Yorkston/Thorne/Khan at some point
Love these guys so much! Played with them before Christmas, wish I could make the album launch show tonight.
they are so great! and a lovely ol’ bunch too
Listening to the new Jeff Parker album on the back of a Pitchfork review (I know, but
)
Think the p-fork tag line gives enough info for y’all to make up your mind whether to give it a whirl. I’m really enjoying it
I like that October Drift album. The energy of it is rare I think
This is pretty good if you like Turnstile / Suicidal Tendencies / 90s hardcore
Scottish psych band Helicon have a new one out on Fuzz Club Records:
“transcendental sitar, oscillating synths, motorik basslines, echo-soaked vocals and huge walls of guitar thick with phaser and fuzz, cranked all the way up to 11”.
Fucking hell, you weren’t kidding. The first minute of the first track is a mess
This year has had a very slow start
That’s because every single producer on the planet was busy contributing to that Twin Atlantic album. No time to work on anything else.
This sounds hugely up my street
It’s good from what I remember in the show, I Shazam’d multiple things from season 1 just to find out they were by him
I like that previous Twin Atlantic one (GLA), but they very much feel like a band being marketed rather than a band doing what they want to do (or how they want to do it).
Really lovely ambient/instrumental album, which features playing from Mutual Benefit among others:
Saw these dudes at 2000 Trees last year, they were hilarious bro-hardcore comedy gold. (Actually did enjoy them, but the posturing was too much).
