New Releases 24/09/2021

Oh well, I’m sure he’ll love that as it’s slightly longer than the combined time of both my Covid jabs

I get the feeling that 7balcony is a test to see if we are really listening to these suggestions, well… the track St Vitus might just be the worse thing I’ve ever had to endure, tinnitus with a jump scare. Although it did get me in the mood to listen to Radian’s On Dark Silent Off again, so cheers for that.

I enjoyed all the other suggestions. Although I enjoyed what I heard, I only managed 2 minutes of Billy Strings before putting on The Goat Rodeo Sessions instead; the best Bluegrass can be is still always improved with a little Yo-Yo Ma.

Haha yeah it’s definitely not all good that record (if it is at all). It just caught my attention as it was mentioned in the Guardian’s monthly ‘contemporary’ album round-up and that description I quoted sounded interesting.

I’ve rarely given an album a full listen before I post it in here; I try to put down everything I’m planning to check out, maybe sometimes I’ll have had a listen first but unless I’m actually saying something like “this is really good” I’m making no guarantees on quality!

I love a good curveball of a suggestion, keep them coming, it would be a boring world if we didn’t challenge ourselves from outside our comfort zone. =]

Completely agree the description is excellent and accurate; someone has a career in marketing ahead of them with that one.

Hugely enjoying the Public Service Broadcasting album. Listened back through Tim’s Listening Party replay site to get some interesting insight on the tracks. It’s like a history lesson on Berlin!

Been enjoying the release from The Lathums from last Friday.

Henryk Debich - Zbliżenie

Hus Kingpin - The Firm

4th album of 2021 from the prolific Hus, this one inspired by the 1997 group The Firm (Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, Cormega, Nature) and the 1993 Tom Cruise film adaptation of the John Grisham novel.

Ustaad Sami - East Pakistan Sky

Third album since 2019 for the last living surti master, a precursor of the ancient Islamic devotional music of qawwali. Under constant threat from Islamic fundamentalists, he has spent his life as a dedicated practitioner of a vanishing art — one that has been passed on from generation to generation since the 13th century. Hard to liken to anything else really, it’s like a spiritual, ritualistic vocal form of drone music.

Soccer96 - Dopamine

New album from the two that aren’t Shabaka Hutchings in The Comet Is Coming. I’m shit at describing stuff, so here’s their bio off Spotify…

The Body & Big|Brave album mentioned a few times early on in this thread looks like it’s now due out tomorrow. I’m very much looking forward to that one, along with audiobooks, Illuminati Hotties and Tirzah.

So sorry paulo, only spotted you posted this, I ended up adding it to this weeks new releases. Love that bio, didn’t realise Hallett played with Boredoms.

No need to apologise, mate! It’s so good that it transcends release dates

Late one for this thread.

Various Artists - Place: Nairobi

KMRU-collated compilation of Nairobi based electronic musicians.

Random bump, but I’m listening to this now and it’s bloody marvellous.

I’m glad you bumped it! I hadn’t listened to this since September but just stuck it on again and it is really great.

Just recently discovered the label that released it, Astigmatic Records, and i’m digging a lot of the stuff in there. The Jaubi and Błoto releases from this year are really good too and i’m slowly making my way through the rest of their releases.
