An apt day to (re)release this too
New Automatic - loved the first one, looking forward to this
pre-release songs don’t inspire confidence, but I pre-ordered anyway.
Well almost everything I had noted is already mentioned so just these to add…
Dinamitri Jazz Folklore - Exwide Live - Album - Fusion
Bebop + big band + jazz funk + afrobeat + scat, its infectious music and a fun listen.
Peru Eizagirre - Just a Moment - Album - Jazz
Glasgow based jazz drummer, I only really know him from Noushy 4tet but really enjoyed this as a first album.
Greet Death - New Low EP
Haven’t listened yet but their 2019 album is a must for anyone who likes slow, crunchy, shoegazey rock.
Have been looking forward to the new Automatic. Almost done listening and really like it. Thought they were gonna go too synth (and I like synths) but the bass guitar and drums are still in the front. Think I’ll have this in rotation as much as the first album.
Seen loads of people going on about this today. It’s quite good it’s an EP not a single.
Greg Puciato - Mirrorcell
Ex Dillinger Escape Plan frontman’s new solo album which he has released early apparently because it had leaked which I didn’t think was really a thing any more.
FFO: A “Mom can we buy a Mike Patton?” / “We have Mike Patton at home” / the Mike Patton at home meme, weightlifting and being absolutely swole, that one time he pooped onstage at Reading Festival
As expected, loving the Ferkat Al Ard (Habibi Funk)
Josin - Traveller
Hadn’t realised this was a proper EP, and not just a single. She released one of my favourite debut albums a few years ago. Absolutely lovely voice, very beautiful music. Has Olafur Arnalds contributing to one of the songs.
Various Artists - For The Birds: The Birdsong Project, Vol. II
51 tracks with artists including Calexico, Dan Deacon, Douglas Dare, Eleanor Friedberger, Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy, Mary Latimore, Shearwater, Stephin Merritt, The Flaming Lips.
This is volume 2 of 5. There’s going to be a 20LP box set of it, which sounds pretty nice, but the price of £499 is surprisingly a bit less nice!
Santana Fox - Girl Next Door
Debut album from Prodigy of Mobb Deep’s daughter. Sounds exactly like an album by one of the grimiest NY emcees daughter to sound like. Even has some production from The Alchemist on it and a Boldy James feature.
enjoying this a lot, getting a few very slight Young Fathers vibes too when the vocals kick in
Yeah, this one’s quite something.
Last week’s favourite was Ghum, with Crake, Perfume Genius, Pet Fox and Timewharp tied for second.
What have you enjoyed this week?
So good. When she was screaming “I’m sick, I’m tired, I’ve been tired for years” I almost cried because it was so cathartic. Found after I actually know one of the band which is cool!
Finally gotten around to Zola Jesus’ album and it’s spectacular. Possibly my favourite of hers.
Post vote tunes…
Lollise - Unborn - EP - Electro Pop
Electro pop with afrobeat from Botswana. Surprising and fun.
Michael Diamond - Third Culture - LP - IDM
Listened to this last week and didn’t connect but during the week it really got its hooks in. Some really nice techno beats and hazy melodies.
Hang Massive and Bleecker - Radius - Album - World
“This collaborative album sees Berlin based producer Bleecker, team up with Hang Massive and Craig R. Ninja to create a musical tapestry of hypnotic, resonant handpan tones with deep electronic soundscapes and textured rhythms.”
Emma-Jean Thackray & Jitwam - Sun (Jitwam & EJT Remix) - Single - Dance
Fun and funky remix, perfect little crowd pleaser.
Martín Guerra - Aiyé - Single - Salsa
Fun Summer song, get the shorts on and get dancin’
Is this the Beastie Boy?
A quick google answered that question for me.
Shame.
