New Releases 27/09/2019

What’s everyone listening to today?

For me it’s all about that Girl Band album, super excited about it!

Will also check out the new Opeth album despite not really loving the last few, but been on a kick with Blackwater Park recently.

Anyone in need of an absolutely beautiful folky album should listen to the last one from Red River Dialect.

If it’s anywhere near as good as blackwater park let me know. I’m not holding out hope.

Gonna give girl band another couple spins as I’ve has to listen to it on a shitty promo jukebox thing that stops between tracks

New Tegan and Sara! Tiny gay heart be still!

Moon Duo and Telefon Tel Aviv for me.

Also going to give the Automatic album a whirl since it’s the Resident album of the week. Post-punk with Motorik beats apparently which sounds right up my street.

Girl Band. The Beatles’ and The Roots’ boxes if they’re out there to listen to. Liked the sound of Field Guides from the recent GoldFlakePaint journal, so maybe them too.

Big release day! Girl Band as mentioned though I’m a bit hungover for it rn. Probably going to start with Sui Zhen’s magical mellow new piece, then get raunchy with Sturgill Simpson’s new greasy country rock record then move onto Comet is Coming’s new EP and Girl Band later. Have been anticipating all four of those for a while!

The Replacements re-edit of Don’t Tell a Soul (under the original title of Dead Man’s Pop). Sounds great.

Kevin Gates - I’m Him (his second album and first major release after the surprise breakout of his debut/his jail time.)

Sturgill Simpson - Sound and Fury. Really loving this so far - Big, dirty, stompy, sleazy rock record, and a hard left turn from a guy whose last album won the best country music Grammy. Sounds a bit like QOTSA in places.

Edit to add: also gonna give DaBaby’s new album a go. Liked his last a lot but it hasn’t totally stuck with me.

After a 10 year hiatus really looking forward to sinking in to the new Telefon Tel Aviv.

Also got the new Alessandro Cortini waiting for me at home.

And will be putting an ear to the new Olan Mill too.

Got this on now

Yep - new Replacements mix of Don’t Tell A Soul is sounding great. Reordering of the tracks really helps aswell

Some new singles too!

A new The Japanese House song is welcome, that album is still one of my absolute favourites this year. Also new Alcest, Foals, Ariel Pink and probably others I haven’t seen yet.
