Forgot that it was a Friday. Here’s a few more releases to round out the year.
Shugo Tokumaru - Other Tracks
I also forgot that there had been a Shugo album this year, and so I assume these are some bonus/left-over songs, released on Christmas Eve. Japanese singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist.
David Wax Museum - Secret Creature
Actually released today, so well done to these guys. “Mexo-Americana” apparently.
Laurie Shaw - Mangle
Irish singer-songwriter, previously mentioned by @Icarus-Smicarus. Sneaking his fourth album of the year out on 23rd December.
Young Jesus - Rejected Ambient Works Vol. 1
Another 23rd December release. Substandard Young Jesus songs maybe?
Finishing off the monthly Lore EP series with this final release, four tracks of modern classical/drone recorded in Laura’s house as the first cold snap reached East Anglia.
Asphalt Savannah - “STAYING BEHOLDEN TO ETERNAL JAZZ AND BLACKENED SUPERNOVAE OF REVENGE!!!”: Circumstantial Evidence Against The Prism Bender’s Righteous Struggle
Sprawling new project from Savan DePaul (aka Ishtar Sr.). One of the most inventive and exciting artists around at the moment, so ready to sit down for a very long time to unpack it all.
Second full length of 2024 (and four EPs!) from one of the most prolific and consistent black metal artists. Released literally a couple of hours after I finalised my end of year list!
The band who released my fourth favourite album last year has decided to release a new album on 29th December this year. Although it doesn’t seem to have their 13/14 year old daughter playing on it this time, boo. Thankfully I don’t think I have to worry about it affecting the top end of my end of year list, but looking forward to listening more.
Self-made/assembled electronic instruments, electrosynth dreampop?
Straight Panic + Quiet Husband - Measurement and Measures Meant
Collab on Industrial Coast released on Christmas Day on 12”. Two of my favourite artists from this year. It’s a brooding dark ambient piece with some subtle noisy elements and some spoken word. It’s really good.
V/Z comfortably topped last week’s poll with a few tired for second on two votes each.
Anything you liked this quiet new musical week?

Straight Panic + Quiet Husband - Measurement and Measures Meant
Missed this when it came out on 1st January. New one from “intuitive folk” artist Diane Cluck who is imo one of best singers ever. Ridiculously perfect voice.
