Efterklang - Things We Have in Common
One of my favourite and most-seen live bands are back with a new album. I tuned into their Bandcamp pre-release playthrough on Wednesday, and was quite please with some of the songs I hadn’t heard yet. It has Mabe Fratti guesting on a few songs (she’ll also be playing with and supporting the band on their upcoming tour), and some Beirut horns on one single.

Even more stuff released compared with last week, but just wanted to post Efterklang first.

Being Dead - EELS

Surf-rock from Austin Texas. Some might find them a bit too goofy, but they’ve got real songwriting chops and the singles have been great. Love these guys.

They’re on my list today, but can’t remember them just yet. A bit suspicious/funny seeing their album name and cover with EELS in capslock!

CS + Kreme - The Butterfly Drinks the Tears of the Tortoise

Loose, jazzy cuts from Australian duo.

TSHA - Sad Girl

London artist on Ninja Tune. Much more vocal than previous stuff: expect dance floor bangers.

Hayden Thorpe - Ness

New solo album from the ex-Wild Beast member. The last two albums have been pretty good so looking forward to this.

Maxïmo Park - Stream of Life

Their last album was excellent imo, so looking forward to this. Find them a real comfort band nowadays.

About to go in on this. An understandable left turn into electronic territory with pitchshifted vocals.

Awful vocals make this unlistenable

Two very different comments

Musically it’s good, vocally it’s terrible.

I’ve only heard one or two of the earlier tracks so far, so will need to vote later (despite my Vote Now proclamation). I feel like it could be either option for me.

New one from Leif Vollebekk

Americana…I’m a big fan but maybe a bit ordinary for some

fantasy of a broken heart - Feats of Engineering
Alt-upbeat indie pop. Initial tracks maybe remind me of Team Me, David & The Citizens, and a bit of Flaming Lips/Mercury Rev maybe.
