Really not sure on this new Vampire Weekend, ‘it’s aggressively uncool’ in places is probably the best way I can describe it. Some great songs but a lot of cheese thrown in, perhaps too much.

It’s definitely too long and too scattergun, but I reckon a 40 minute version with the best 12 songs would be a fine album.

Even have a new producer for the first time in 15 years and it still sounds the same.

Anyone got an opinion on this new Vampire Weekend album then?

Not heard it but guessing it’s shit.

See above. I think it’s got some great songs on it but the effect is blunted a bit by all the stylistic changes and the fact that it is at least 5 songs too long. Starts really strong and has a couple of great songs at the end (especially the last one). Bit of a dip in the middle.

The Patience album is great - full of synth-pop bangers.

Absolutely banging stuff, this.

There is No Other from Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi is very good, quite powerful folk music. My favourite album of a strong week.

Been enjoying this too. The European feel to the music really suits her. Nabbed some tickets to her Edinburgh show in December.

I think it is great album.

There are a few skippable songs but by and large it’s filled with interesting guitar pop music.

It’s definitely growing on me. I still think it dips in the middle and there are few dodgy moments (We Belong Together is excruciating and Sunflower also sets my teeth on edge a bit) but these are massively outweighed by the good stuff. The beginning (the seven songs up to and including Unbearably White) is superb and I love Jerusalem, New York, Berlin.

Here’s a preview of what’s coming out this Friday (didn’t want to start a thread yet) because I like to download new releases on Spotify on Friday morning for my commute.

Also out on Friday:

AA Bondy
Boogarins
Daddy Long Legs
Dawn Landes
Efrim Manuel Menuck & Kevin Doria
HÆLOS
The Mystery Lights

Probably loads more as well.

God I hope this is better than the appalling solo album from a couple of years ago.

Friday is all about Tim Hecker.
