What’s on your radar this week?

Eddie Chacon - Lay Low

One half of 90s duo Charles & Eddie with a follow up to unexpected gem Sundown from 2023. Hazy, seductive downbeat soul.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy - The Purple Bird

Country/bluegrass pop, backed by a band of Nashville regulars.

The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow

Apparently the last release under The Weeknd name. Will give this a spin, but 22 tracks over an hour and a half does put me off a little…

Yes finally a more useful Spotify link for things we aren’t familiar with.

Praetorian - Pylon Cult

Blackened sludge. One of the filthiest things I’ve heard. I got a review copy and it was far too much for me, but someone here should enjoy it.

Amaia - Si Abro Los Ojos No Es Real

Spanish art pop with a delicate touch, I’m really smitten with a lot of the production here.

Jumped on the listening party earlier on the week and it’s very good. Ambient /soundscapey stuff

Дeva - Avar
Hungarian alt/traditional folk sounds with low key electronica. Saw her/them at Great Escape Festival a couple of years ago and really liked.

Agreed the production here is wonderful. Second track reminds me of serph/reliq a bit

Decius - Decius Vol. II (Splendour & Obedience)

Big beats and layers of vintage synths. Summed up by Rough Trade as a “mix of house, disco, and techno with an acid twist.”

Oh Reliq has a new one out today! How odd.

Reliq - Amenty Session

Ffo gltichy hazy dance music that sounds like the ridge racer type 4 soundtrack sometimes

What sort of thing is MIKE?

Rosa Bordallo - Isidro

Guam artist based in New York. Formerly of the indie rock band Cholo and her Manett solo project and now on her second solo album under her own name. Art rock, judging by the two (excellent) pre-release tracks. I’ve seen her work compared to Cate Le Bon and Mitski.

Ludovico Einaudi - The Summer Portraits

17th studio album for the Italian pianist and composer who has the temerity to make lovely and accessible classical music that lots of people like.
