Pile have an EP out
Footwork, bass. Atmospheric stuff.
Enjoyed Dawn of the Final Hour from last January and this sounds good so far.
Also on Bandcamp pay what you can (edit: with two extra tracks not on streaming)
Savan DePaul - iLLadelph halfdeath under a nautical twilight
Hyperpop/hip-hop deep dive from Philadelphiaās finest who also records as Ishtar Sr.
Seems to be a lot of hype about Sprints. For people who want to know what Courtney Love would sound like if she was Irish.
Thereās a new God is an Astronaut live album with Jo Quail featuring on it.
Kinoteki sounds great.
Galcher Lustwerk - Played Out
House EP
OG Keemo - Fieber
German hip-hop - @paulo is a fan which ought to be recommendation enough.
He likes an early in the year album, our Keemo. His last one came out the first week of 2022 too.
Will be giving it a spin in a bit
Relaxing, clean modern jazz. Some nice vocal performances too, been nice to work to this morn.
Alkemie & Freelance Nun - A Fine Companion - LP - Medieval Rock
Released 05/01. Medieval instruments and lyrics with modern production. Its a little hit & miss and the production can be a little heavy handed but Iām a sucker for operatic singing and odd instuments so this one worked for me, especially the preview track after a quiet intro ([edit] skip 30 seconds).
SongWhip Link
Rosie Frater-Taylor - Featherweight - LP - Soul Funk
Supposed to be released 03/01, think it might be delayed to 09/02. The follow up to her 2021 album, Bloom. I like her voice and her plucky guitar, nothing new but all solid.
SongWhip Link (Artist Only)
Laurie Shaw - Dove From Above
Prolific Wirral born, Kerry based artist. Sounds like a more DIY Bill Ryder Jones.
Usually insanely prolific, he released 7 albums in 2022 alone, but unusually heās slowed down and been teasing this one with singles for nearly a year - described as āan arrangement of model kit parts from doomed releasesā. Good title too.
Sorry to be a pedant, but I think that the OP links to last yearās single by Sprints.
Believe the album out today can be found here:
To be fair once youāve heard one song youāve heard them all.
Good news! Thereās a new Shed Seven album:
Shed Seven - A Matter of Time
I need a ādislikeā button.
Jonas Bonnetta & Edwin Huizinga - Dark Watchers
Quite lovely instrumental/ambient album from Evening Hymns chap and someone else.
LYR - An Unnatural History
Poet speaking guy and singer singing guy with a new album.
Viic Woods - The Water Between Us
Previously went by the artist name of Mire Kay, and had a song on the Netflix show Dark. Probably FFO boygenius or somesuch.
There better be a follow-up called āCrow From Belowā.
Thanks, thought the single being played on 6 music sounded good so Iāll give it a listen
Saw Sprints last October and thought they were really good/great. Their A Modern Job EP is solid stuff - punchy tracks, good hooks. Sheās a great frontperson too.
But Iām finding the album quite underwhelming. It doesnāt feel as urgent, and the somewhat scrappy nature of the old stuff has been replaced with more of a grand, stadium-y feel. I donāt think anything about it really stands out.
I got half way through and turned it off. Theyāre probably going to be huge.
Havenāt heard the album or most of the singles yet, my experience when I was researching them before seeing them support Gilla Band a couple of years ago was that the A Modern Job EP was pretty solid stuff but anything theyād released before it was a bit more generic (their live set also started a bit generic and got better as it went on). A shame if the album is a step backwards. Will give it a spin over the weekend.
