Sounds a bit like an MOR late era a-ha to me, except worse. All very forgettable.

This is banging!

I’m very pleased to admit that I don’t know what late era aha sounds like, but it does not sound like a compliment!!

I think the thing I liked about the maccabees was the sense of urgency in their music which couldn’t be more lacking in this record if it tried.

That Nihiloxica album is top banana. I’m now in a Ugandan drum trance after listening to it on repeat for four hours. Brilliant recommendation.

Had pretty much the same experience with it today. Completely rushed over me, but in a good way. Great record

So… I keep seeing these nice polls.

And it got me thinking… is there a collective DiS conscience?

Like, do our top-voted choices from the previous month (roughly mid-May to mid-June) suggest commonalities among us lovers of sound?

So I thought it would be fun and maybe even revealing to have a look:

Some things that stand out:

  1. Well, the declining participation is glaringly obvious. As a slope, it’s almost perfectly downward.

  2. Our appetite seems to be overwhelmingly political. Wonder why…?

  3. Lots of rapper/producer duos.

  4. This list is predominantly male. (Perhaps it’s worth noting the sole woman on the list, fronting Bab L’Bluz, is occupying a traditionally male role).

  5. Ratio of Americans to Brits: 5:1.

  6. If you add all the numbers in the votes column together, you get: 956. Which is the number of US law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty over the last 5 years.

As a parting comment, may I just say: the fact that West African trance music is in this list perfectly explains why I love DiS. Also… please be safe out there as we continue to navigate pandemics and race wars. My prayers are with you and yours :hugs:

Just found this one. Pond/Tame Impala member, sounds like what you’d imagine. Better than TI’s recent shower of excrement.

Just waking up to this now - it is very, very good.

I know I’m bumping an old thread but I listened to that single (with the sort of news show video) on a whim and loved it. So I’m glad yr endorsement is pushing me towards the rest of the album.
