Not really twitter spent today listening to Martyn Bootyspoon

This has made me put Upstepping on for the first time in a long time - what a fantastic album.

That is a really horrible thought

I found last week a bit flimsy for new releases, but this week looks like it’s really made up for it. Put quite a lot on my list to check out when I get a moment.

Sort-of looking forward to Bright Eyes, although 6 music are desperately trying to ruin it for me. I liked Persona Non-Grata (can’t beat a good bit of bagpipes) despite their best interests. Mariana Trench is OK, but I’m pretty fed up with it right now. They played another couple of songs today which sounded pleasant enough.

I did have a moment of pathetic misguided outrage yesterday when I swore at them for playing Bright Eyes AGAIN!!! and hurriedly skipped past the track only to find out it was Perfume Genius. Which I felt quite bad about because I really like the PG album. Obviously wasn’t paying much attention.

I found this to be surprisingly enjoyable given that I wasn’t impressed with the singles they released ahead if it

It’s like Secret Machines distilled. Not as ambitious as their first 2 albums and they’ve reined in the sometimes sprawling song structures but it seemd to have more of an emotional pull and is more cohesive. The singles work much better in the context of the album too. A really nice, easy listen. 8 songs, 31 minutes of melodic propulsive space rock.

Going off their interviews it appears they’ve got a lot more music recorded and ready to release. Feels good to have them back.

Just reading about the album and apparently they hired Adam Granduciel(?) To work on the album! Not credited though… Do have Alex Cameron and Weyes Blood on it. Very very weird

Wait… this killers album is checks notes pretty good?

Can’t stand The Killers album
I Like Trains new album has washed over me
Secret Machines, can barely be arsed but I’ll give it a listen

2004/05, sort your shit out

Really like the music on the I like trains album but Dave’s vocal does not suit it at all

Alex Cameron was on the last one too, he was also their tour support

Yeah, similar thoughts! Certainly more cohesive. An enjoyable listen overall, pleasantly surprised.

Great heavy psych!

The first single from that I Like Trains album was like a dodgy Murray Lachland Young impersonator spewing out clichees. And sadly except for one, the first handful of songs on this album are all pretty much that. (I’ve not got much further yet)

So that’s disappointing - I was hoping the single was a bit of an anomaly. Having said that, it’s not as bad as I remember - at least the music behind the vocals seems quite good.

Will give it some more time.

Onto Lemon Twigs. First song is very perky isn’t it? Quite summery. Second song also quite poppy and catchy. Thinking pleasant but forgettable so far. (But then with my memory that’s not saying a lot.)

OK if I thought the Lemon Twigs were perky and summery, they have nothing on Alex the Astronaut. Well it’s hard to feel cynical listening to this.

Quite liking Westelaken. Not a million miles from Bright Eyes (not that I’ve put their album on). Not going to change the world, but quite enjoyable so far.

I’ve been listening to it throughout the day. Really like it. There’s a quite a lot going on, so repeat listens are proving to be very rewarding
