Been hearing lots of good things about the The Big Freeze by Laura Stevenson. Haven’t listened yet but apparently FFO Phoebe Bridgers and Waxahatchee

I’ll maybe have to check those two out as well then

My ATD (that’s the DiS term for best mate isn’t it?) used to be in a band called Nosferatu D2 along with his brother. I know there were a few fans of them on here, but before that they also used to be in a band called Tempertwig with a friend called Dan.

Anyway, Audio Antihero and another new label called “Randy Sadage” have decided to remaster and release the old Tempertwig songs as an album, over 15 years since they were originally recorded.

Steve Lamacq once reviewed them as “Jarvis Cocker fronting Dinosaur Jr”. Others have compared to Life Without Buildings.

Here’s a couple of links and a better description than what I can come up with. @1101010 is the only DiSer who I know has heard the originals from the early 2000s. He might be better at describing than me.

But it’s good.

New string quartet by Anna Meredith looks pretty good

Good golly I completely forgot Lower Slaughter’s new album was out today. Righteous indie punk that everyone needs hooking directly into their veins immediately. The two tracks they released in the build up were spectacularly good.

Right, so one listen into the Laura Stevenson record and it’s lovely. Phoebe Bridgers comparisons are pretty accurate but it’s got a bit more grandeur about it, not as stripped back as Bridgers and pretty lush arrangements. Quite folky in places too.

As a minimum I would recommend the track “Big Deep”

I think it’s a digital release only so far but Jo Schornikow - Secret Weapon is out today.
Sort of dreamy slow-burning indie in the same vein as Hand Habits and Sun June.

Value Inn is lovely

Just popped Fennesz on - always exciting

Not heard of her until you mentioned her. Downloaded it and have it on my earphones heading to work (on my annual leave day, but that’s another issue). Sounds very good half way in. A lovely record to have on during a sunny spring morning.

Did’t realise the whole thing was out today - I thought it was just a single for some reasons. Excited for this!

K Á R Y Y N’s ‘debut’ is out today, and well worth a listen. It’s mostly made up of previous EPs, but it’s gorgeous to hear all together in one sitting.

Crystalline glitchy electronic experimental pop I guess? I dunno. Björk is a fan apparently. At any rate, it’s bloody lovely.

Billie Eilish sounds good

Yeah this is really good. It’s like Earth meets Grails meets someone like Carlton Melton maybe. Pleasingly languid riffery. Thanks for the recommendation :+1:
